#471322 TOB scaling

Posted by To gain on 27 October 2023 - 02:27 PM

Personally i feel like TOB should scale for duo parties (NOT solo), scaling the hp changes nothing to the difficulty of the raid overall, since less players = less dps, making it no different then 3-4-5 man raids.

To get a tob party going and keep it going at the moment (needing 3-5) ppl is next to impossible most of the times.

It doesnt hurt the game, it doesnt change any of the mechanics , all that would happen is scale the hp down by a little and hopefully make tob more active.

No way the gatekeepers are saying no support lollllll

#471302 TOB scaling

Posted by gim crohn on 27 October 2023 - 11:47 AM

10000% support on this. ToB has been dead content for a long time and the idea that players should just "get better" isn't really helpful when the opportunity for learning isn't the same as it was in the past. Nowadays if someone wants to learn there is nearly 0 chance of finding a team even at peak times, on bonuses the players who do ToB are less likely to take learners as well.

I think lowering not necessarily the raid difficulty overall but scaling - would help achieve this. (I would also support making the raid easier though, that's a different topic). This coming from a Comp'd GIM whos only remaining (reasonable) end game grind is ToB.

I'd also like to take a second to acknowledge that there seems to be an organized effort to vote down this suggestion even though the majority of the community seems to support it.

Some of those who do in fact own/are a part of an organized group that SELLS access to both ToB runs, achievements, AND learning. Wouldn't they have a vested interest in this not passing as they operate an in-game business that benefits from restricted access to ToB?

#465644 Unraveling the Unfairness: The Double Standards in Game Moderation

Posted by Serpent on 02 August 2023 - 07:41 PM

In recent times, a concerning trend has emerged within our beloved video game community. Players have been flouting the game's terms of service, facing bans, only to find themselves back in the game after a brief hiatus. While this may seem like a fair second chance, the issue lies in the apparent bias shown by the game's staff, who seem to be lenient with their friends' misconduct. This double standard has sparked frustration and disappointment among the community, leaving players questioning the integrity of the game's moderation.

It's disheartening for dedicated players who abide by the rules to witness others breaking them with apparent impunity. The feeling of unfairness arises when unbanned players continue to enjoy the game while contributing to a toxic atmosphere, undermining the hard work and sportsmanship displayed by the majority. The lack of consistent enforcement of the terms of service can breed resentment and discourage players from investing their time and effort into the game.

Game moderation is pivotal in maintaining a healthy and enjoyable gaming environment. While some leniency might be necessary to give players a second chance, consistent and unbiased enforcement of the rules is crucial for fostering a fair and inclusive community. When moderators demonstrate favoritism towards their friends, it erodes players' trust in the system and undermines the sense of fairness that should be at the core of every game.

Community Impact:
The impact of this double standard stretches beyond the immediate repercussions for the game. It damages the sense of camaraderie and respect within the community. Players may feel discouraged from reporting rule violations, assuming their efforts will be in vain if the offender is close to the staff. Consequently, the community's integrity suffers, as it becomes riddled with toxicity, dishonesty, and an atmosphere of mistrust.

Seeking Solutions:
To address this issue, open and transparent communication between the game developers, moderators, and players is essential. Implementing an unbiased and consistent enforcement system that treats all players equally, regardless of their connections, is crucial in restoring the community's faith in the game's management. Furthermore, involving community members in the moderation process through trusted group can provide an extra layer of accountability and impartiality.

Conclusion:
In the face of double standards and biased enforcement, the video game community deserves better. It's time for game moderators to listen to their players, acknowledge their concerns, and take proactive steps to ensure that the rules are upheld uniformly and without bias. Only then can the gaming community thrive, fostering a welcoming environment that celebrates fair play and camaraderie among all its members.

#461608 Change the PJ timer in singles wilderness

Posted by gim crohn on 07 June 2023 - 10:22 PM

This post comes not as a standalone, but as a identical repeat post by @iron tard replicating his earlier suggestion of the exact same thing (as well as being a suggestion others have made in the past) If alora rules were applied EQUALLY TO ALL this thread would have been locked, closed or denied as many other duplicate suggestions have.

The reason he's made this post is clear, his previous post didn't work and has major pushback on it leading him to rewrite it so he (and friends) can control the narrative on a fresh post. It's dishonest and unfortunate that as they do frequently many staff turn a blind eye to friends who break these rules many of them minor, then go and utilize those same minor rules to infract or punish those who they may not be very friendly with.

Now, on the actual topic at hand.

Singles + exists. It exists inside the rev cave and succeeds there. It thrives there, and those who wish for singles+ content can make use of it and never have to pk elsewhere as there's always going to be PvP activity inside the caves as it's one of the only long term profitable wilderness activities for all. This suggestion doesn't increase ways to play, it limits it to one way (it just so happens to be the way @iron tard and many who support this currently play)

Making the entire wilderness singles+ has one major effect: the death of team PKing. You can try to phrase it anyway you want but that's the reality, on OSRS many of the largest team PK clans or groups have effectively disbanded or lost a majority of their active players. You can make any excuses you want but what you are endorsing is the death of all team PKing activities in alora as Multi is dead as we all know.

The other effect is has is amplifying the worst 2 aspects of pvp that everyone can agree on: Skill Gap and Gear Gap. With a 12 second PJ timer there is no counter to an extremely strong PKer with a bowfa/gigamax/Elysian set.

Currently the only counter unless you yourself are an extremely high skilled player willing to risk the same amount is working collaboratively as a team.

This isn't the be all end all that some as suggesting. As the leader of the most active CC in the wilderness we have LOST more than we have gained recently. We lose sets almost daily, SPECIFICALLY to @Yautja @iron tard @Hax @Wattson @Ransu @socket and many others because 2 strong PKers in max is an effective counter to 10 shitty PKers in rags.

The clear difference here is when we lose a set we gear up, and go back out after licking our wounds. We don't go cry on the forums to change game rules and content after we die because we got outplayed at the game that has had the same rules for 15 years.

There are plenty of counters to teams in singles with the current PJ timer here's a few that don't include everything:

Supply management, more tank gear, SOTD spec, NPC boxing, making use of your own team, DDing, using obstacles like crevices, door jamming, fake outs, and many many more.

There's entire metas that have developed over 15 years whether it be carrying a lockpick and cash by MB or using obelisks & animation stalls to send opponents to a completely different area of the wilderness.

Here's a link to a fantastic video by Eliop14 on why the PJ timer spelled death for team PKing in OSRS.

@iron tard if you need help learning how to get better he also has a video that's 25 minutes long on dozens of solo or small team escapes from

large teams even IN MULTI.

Aftermath CC is an all game-modes clan that doesn't take themselves, or this game too seriously. We're here to have some fun, and not to treat this game like an Olympic sport, now if this sounds like you please feel free to apply to Alora's most popular non-helpcc at the following: Aftermath - PvM/Skilling - All Game Modes - Clan Recruitment - Alora RSPS | Oldschool MMORPG

Although we do have requirements to become full members, we also have a trial rank that allows you 30 days to not only complete the requirements but also to get vibe checked by the homies. Without further rambling I bring to you Alora's Finest: Aftermath.

This month we have a few changes to the Higher-Ups and are excited for what the future has to bring.

Promotions:

We congratulate @saeed for his promotion to the Gold Star Gang.

Additions:

We welcome back @St8 as Captain from his brief hiatus to touch grass and lift weights.

Resignations:

None - Congrats guys.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

We have officially met with @Paragon and they have recognized their untimely demise and they made a laughably brief attempt to join our ranks before they were ridiculed and given the swift boot out after unsightly screenshots leaked of their discussions about our beloved Tekk3rs. We'd expose those discussions but they're so vile they wouldn't be allowed on Alora's Christian Minecraft Forums.

@redcar aka Dedcar has a long history of donating HUGE amounts to Aftermath even when he was among our ranks. Unfortunately he's not as quick with his logout in the wilderness as he is while gambling clan members.

I'm glad you've made it this far. Unfortunately not all players in Alora that witness Aftermath's greatness live as long as you, many perish at the hands of our beloved demons in the wilderness. Unfortunately PARAGONE has been MIA apart from @socket and @Ransu poking their head up once in a while to score a kill on one of our many PvMers to cosplay as NHers. Somehow in their little forum post they left out all the sets they lost to those very same PvMers... Wonder how that happened, must be a glitchh

Somehow our PvMers turned NH Cosplayers have claimed many sets recently, although we don't claim to be a PvP focused clan we aren't afraid of throwing ourselves in the ring. Our impeccable teamwork, and team morale that's higher than @Moe and @it_happened on a weekend make us a formidable threat to all in Alora's Wilderness.

We wanna give an honorable mention to the Wannabe Disney star, former AFM members, and "PKers" who lose their streaks to HCIM: Alora may not be 1:1 with osrs but we can still turn your bones to peaches in our hearts.

AFTERMATH HISTORY LESSONS

Congratulations for making it all the way though this post. We're going to end these newsletters with some history lessons on major Aftermath events, people, misfortunates, etc.

Today we're going to learn about the infamous

Super Restore Fiasco of 2023

Legal Disclaimer:

Spoiler

In late 2022/early 2023 Alora's amazing development team implemented one of the most beloved changes in history; They made super restores heal almost 50HP in addition to their regular effects. It wasn't long before players (and staff) began to take note, a new meta was forming for ALL content in the game. Anglers and manta rays were left in the bank and players across all our 1 world began using super restores instead; especially prominent AFM members.

After this became known to staff conflicting reports came out about what you were, and weren't allowed to do. You couldn't use them, you could only use them bursting, you could only have a maximum of 3 in your inventory, the rules kept coming and so did the seemingly arbitrary punishments.

Unfortunately Aftermath is not known for a reserved nature, and instead some of our prominent members took it upon themselves to "bug test" the super restores to explore the details of this new Alora "feature" to determine how best to file bug reports and help our development team out. Unfortunately the staff didn't see this the way many of us did; and swiftly handed out jails and punishments to the many members accused of "abusing" this new feature.

#454349 When is the next Leagues?

Posted by Selenagomez on 28 February 2023 - 01:01 AM

As the title states, when is the next time we will see leagues on alora?

Why dont we see them more often? It doesn't always have to be some big thing like **!!! FIRST PLACE WINS A BUGATTI!!**

Just give out some store tokens/add total spent towards donor rank and do leagues more often maybe like 1-2 per year.

#455832 A discussion on Rule 1 b)

Posted by gim crohn on 20 March 2023 - 07:53 PM

I want to begin this post by urging (ironically) respect AND charitability.

If you don't understand someone's position in the comments try and PM them and ask directly or if you must interpret use the most charitable position.

I also would suggest NOT including any player names, including staff members. This allows us to separate emotions and preconceptions of everyone involved and prevent harassment.

As of the past few months others and I have observed rule 1.B) punishments becoming more and more frequent. This has almost exclusively been interpreted as "Staff Disrespect/Flaming" Many of these have also skipped stages in the punishment process expediting harsher punishments.

For those unfamiliar in full text the rule is as follows:

• b. Content that is publicized via world yell, public chat, or clan chat that is deemed inappropriate, demeaning, or disrespectful per a staff member’s discretion is not permitted and will correspond with the punishments stated above.

Now if you don't know, I do have some IRL experience (5 years) with understanding and interpreting legal statutes.

It is my opinion that this is intended as an umbrella statement that fills in the gaps of sub-section a) to allow staff to punnish someone for demeaning or disrespectful comments that don't fit in the aforementioned categories in sub-section a). As of recently however this rule has been frequently used as a justification to punnish those who've disrespected, demeaned, or hurt the feelings of select staff members.

It is of my opinion and that of many others who play Alora that staff members act as the police and government of the game. To maintain order and facilitate administration. If we draw a comparison to the real world, police and other government administration are not free from criticism, insult, degradation or disrespect. This enables accountability.

In fact satirical or insulting forms of commentary towards these officials is one of the most common and popular forms of modern comedy. Now as volunteers I believe staff should be able to be insulated from the most extreme instances of this. With punishments for racist/sexist/etc comments still being on the table. I do believe much of this could be resolved by allowing staff to use the ignore list in otherwise significant examples of disrespect.

I would like to make it clear that this is a difficult issue and I don't have a perfect solution for it. I do personally believe that currently the interpretation is too vague.

A staff member should be able to communicate with someone who is upset, unfriendly, or disrespectful or at the least delegate that situation to someone else to de-escalate.

Also a player, who may be emotional or overreacting should be able to communicate without feeling as if they're stepping on eggshells not to say anything that could be interpreted as disrespectful or rude to a staff member. All of the communities favorite staff members have been able to navigate this situation with grace and rarely if ever needing to utilize punishing people with this rule. A great example of this was the Infamous Fally Riots and subsequent riots inside of the theatre against a former admin. Often by being funnier, more thoughtful or just killing them with kindness each of these staff members have been favorites in the community because of this. This does describe a plurality of the current staff team by the way imo.

Perhaps I'm biased or misguided on this and much of the community disagrees. However, I encourage you all to take yourself outside of your own preconceptions and think about how you would feel on the players side - would you be likely to reform and continue playing this game or would you be resentful. Hopefully one of y'all is smarter than I and has a better perspective or solution but I'm watching many people leave the game and I think this may play at least a small role in that.

#455251 How a Penguin ended up in Port Sarim Jail

Posted by gim crohn on 13 March 2023 - 03:34 PM

This has 4 layers of cringe and allow me to elaborate

  1. Cringe from Player Staff Team in general, as this was likely voted on and I PERSONALLY know multiple of you who've used this safespot specifically in instances with your mates. Yes, Alan may be viewed as a dislikable person for many reasons but the hypocrisy is wild. Also muting him for being annoying (which yes you probably were being annoying Alan) to staff is just pathetic. Police shouldn't have the right in a game or in real life to just use their powers to circumvent or punish someone for someone being annoying or rude to them - that's their job.
  2. Cringe from Developers for having multiple updates pass and not fixing this. I'm certain this has been reported and if it hasn't as it's breaking game rules and is punishable staff should be responsible for reporting and seeing to it getting fixed not the players who are liable to be punished for using it because then it becomes a game of "oh I was just testing it to get video/photo evidence to post the bug report" and no staff member could prove otherwise.
  3. Cringe from @To gain for specifically allowing it then punishing him for doing it without so much as a warning (now this one is tentative because it's possible he warned him and Alan is leaving this out.)
  4. Cringe from @Real Alan for having so much goddamn free time that he's able to make this long of a post about a penguin in jail (and muted) for using a safepot. Personally I would have just laughed and said what I always do - Fuck this game and log out.

Ty GLHF.

This was long so kinda skimmed through it but TLDR is you got jailed for safe spotting Nex? If so that's brutal. Seen staff member(s) do this and was showed this a few weeks ago for the first time in an instance with a staff member present and doing it

Today, while doing master clues, I got randomly jailed by the staff team (@Ivy and @To gain)
cfcb0977c49a3a142aa492e66045a391.gif

What for?

For safe spotting nex, according to staff.

What did I actually do though?
To answer that, we'll need to go back in time.

While doing the drop rate calculations for nex, I realized that you only need to do 100 damage at nex to qualify for a roll on the unique drop table.

The MVP gets a small 1.2x bonus, while everyone else (rank 2 damage to rank last damage) all have the same odds at a drop.

As a result, I devised a plan to consistently get rank last damage with minimal effort.
If the rank 2 damage gets the same reward as rank last damage, why work that hard?
Blame the system. Don't blame the player.

Anyways, how might one do that?

Simple! Zaryte crossbow spec has 75 accuracy and will always hit 110 damage if the attack lands. If I can land 1 of those, I should be all set.

I could do this at the start and launch a zaryte crossbow spec at nex; however, nex has much higher ranged defense than her 4 mages. Plus nex likes to drag aggresive players into the center.

As a result, I decided to dump my spec on one of the 4 mages.

First, I started by targeting the last of the 4 mages. However, 1 out of 4 attempts resulted in a miss and sometimes I couldn't get the minimum 100 damage in afterwards.

So, I changed the plan.

I switched to the first mage. This way if I missed, I still had sufficient time to do the bare minimum 100 damage.

Here's how the plan worked.

1. Camouflage with the icy nex environment by morphing in a penguin with the clock work suit.
This will help me blend in with the mass.

2. Stand in the first mage's quadrant. I stood 1 tile next to the first mage to maximize my distance from nex (in the center). Nex has limited attack range, so this will minimize the incoming damage.

3. Unload 1 zaryte crossbow spec the second the first mage becomes attackable. If 100+ damage, morph back into a penguin. If not, continue attacking nex until 100 damage. Then return to penguin form.

4. Wait around while the nex mass moves to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mages. This will drag nex far away from me and allow me to eliminate incoming damage.

Now that I had a plan in place, there was only 1 thing left to do.
Confirm with the staff and administrators that this method was allowed.
Here's how our chat went.

c64d9cfe8eae0c366a79fb86b349d7b4.png
21c32d9aa17064c38906be68be861d95.png

Now fast forward 2 weeks.
I'm working on some master clues, only to be teleported straight into jail.
No discussion, whatsoever.

When attempting to discuss... this is what happens.
317f581ba585b114c76aab4aa47771eb.png

16f69eeedd7bb9eaa92c0b6f42267b38.png

According to staff, I broke the safe spotting rule.

Here's the issue with that though.
I only hit nex's mage 1 time.
Nex's mage hit me back 1 time.
Then I transformed back into a penguin.
I never even hit Nex (unless I missed my spec)

Imagine getting jailed for safe spotting nex, when you don't even attack nex.
According to staff, it's because I was standing on a certain bugged tile.

I didn't trap Nex. I didn't attack Nex. I just stayed while nex ran away from me and chased the rest of the mass to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mages. This is clearly not safe spotting.

My problem with this is... if the tile is bugged -> it's staff's responsibility to let players know not to stand on that tile (or to just block that tile off entirely)

To gain failed to mention which tiles were off limits.
There's no way a new player would know that standing next to a mage is bannable.
It's completely allowed in OSRS. How else do you melee the magers?

I'm just an innocent penguin that's playing the game in my own creative manner.
How am I supposed to know that standing next to a mage is a bugged spot?

I was aware that standing next to the 3rd mage could cause nex to bug into a wall, so I avoided that. I even tried to avoid breaking any rules by first confirming with staff before doing it.

And that boys... is how a penguin ended up in Port Sarim Jail.
