I'm willing to bet none of you are familiar with "Nirvanna the Band" and no.... I don't mean the band "Nirvana". I mean the band "Nirvanna the Band"... and their show "Nirvanna the Band the Show".
Nirvanna the Band the Show is one of those criminally underrated gems that still flies under the radar, so I’ve got to share it with you.
If you’re into chaotic, low-budget, brilliantly committed comedy, this show is on another level. It follows two guys (Matt and Jay) trying to get a gig at The Rivoli… (a literal dive-bar in Toronto) and that’s basically the entire premise... but the way they go about it spirals into some of the most absurd, creative, and weirdly ambitious stuff I’ve ever seen.
It blends real-world interactions with scripted insanity in a way that feels almost viral video like
The commitment to the bit is unreal (they’ll go way too far for a joke, and it pays off)
It has this DIY, guerrilla-filmmaking style that somehow makes everything funnier
It’s chaotic but also weirdly smart and self-aware
It’s kind of like if Flight of the Conchords, Eric Andre and early YouTube chaos had a baby... but still feels completely like its own thing.
If you’ve seen it, drop your favorite moments. I know there are some that live rent-free in our heads forever.
And if you haven’t… seriously, give it a shot. It’s one of the best shows ever.
Oh, and did I mention they recently released a movie in theatres??? Guess what the name of the movie is...
