Hi Guys,

 

Now that christmas is approaching (and it is well known for helping others), I think it would be a fantastic idea to do a "money sink - donation to charity event."

 

We can have a well/sinking material that every 100M donated, 10 euros will be donated from the server to charity foundations in any country. We can generate a couple of 100 euros/dollars for good causes.

 

Also this can be super beneficial for alora's economy :)

Going to have to disagree. Alora is not like Runescape. We're not a multi-million dollar company that can afford giving to charity like that. Dan could not possibly afford putting that much money out - especially if it's 100m/10 euros. People like Casual could seriously mess up his day. If you want to donate to charity, directly do it yourself. But Dan cannot be giving away money to charity that he needs to run the server.

Like I previously mentioned though, the reason Jagex is able to effectively run the well for charity in Runescape, is because they're a multi-million dollar company - donating a few thousand dollars does not at all affect their money issue. When you try to apply that concept to a "small" community like Runescape private servers, Alora specifically, the ratio of $ to GP would have to be outrageously high because Dan can't afford to just throw money out of his pocket at a charity. Even then, it would be extremely easy to accumulate GP donations on here that would skyrocket prices. Another reason why it's effective on Runescape is that gp actually has a real-life value (even if it's against the rules); meanwhile, Alora GP is virtually useless. While your suggestion has a positive intent behind it, you're better off donating your money directly to charity instead of imposing that on Dan.

I think what Savitr said is very true.

 

Your intentions are very pure and I can see how this is a great way to pull the community together for a great cause.

This said I think this is the wrong medium to use. Alora is too small for such a task. Dan is not going to be able to cough up a few thousand dollars out of nowhere.

Having a server costs a lot. While he gets daily donations I bet you most of it goes into the server again.

 

I would love to see something like this, but I'm afraid the Runescape Private-server scene will never be big enough for it to work.

I suggest as Savitr said, either go donate yourself to a charity or wait for bigger communities to do such a thing.

 

The "Yogscast Jingle Jam" is just around the corner where you usually get 40+ games for $25, all for charity.

I think you have a great idea, but the form of donations is a bit off. If players choose to donate in-game GP, there's only a loss for Dan. I think a better idea would to have a marginal percentage of donations in a set time be donated to charity (e.g. 40% of donations from December 20th to January 1st will be donated to charity). That way, Dan is still creating revenue while having a way for the community to express some Christmas cheer or w/e. It doesn't address some things such as a possible money sink, but it's the best compromise I can come up with.

I like the idea of a charity thing, this is purely Dan's decision though, the money gained through donations goes toward the server.

 

Maybe if like every $50 donated, $1 went to charity during the month of December or something like that.
