What is your suggestion?:

Remove the cring requirement that players have to yell 'have questions feel free to pm me or join Alora cc' (or anything similar) in order to have a chance at a staff position

How would this benefit Alora?:

It makes it so blatently obvious these players only say that because they want to be on the staff team, I've asked multiple staff members and they all think its a dumb/outdated requirement. If a player wishes to dedicate their free time to be a staff member then they should show it through their application and actions done in game.

If someone replies to a lot of people daily in pms with questions, but doesn't do these weird steps, they wont get a staff position which is just backwards imo.

Support on this.

Mod / Staff should be earned by checking multiples criteria other than yelling to offer help.

Agreed. It does scream "look im trying to help please mod me"

I remember playing another server (MANY years ago) we had a section ::help that people would chill there and help new players with questions and such.

Could be a good place added to avoid the yelling

that's basically alora cc, but new players are automatically put there when they start the game, so kind of defeats the purpose of yelling it 24/7

That's true, and also pretty much active "cc" in game has people to answer questions

No one's ever said that yelling the stuff you said is a requirement, however, since staff members can be found at ::staff for help, regular players have to let others know in alternative ways that they're available to answer questions, hence the yells. It also helps us higher ups spot people that are showing an interest in helping players and would like to become staff members.

Personally, I don't see an issue with players yelling that stuff, staff members are not available around the clock so it's nice to get some assistance from the community.

I agree that candidates should receive consideration because of their positive reputation, game knowledge & presence within the community—along with a well written application, of course.

But even though incessantly ::yelling to offer help has become a staple of everyone’s “road to SS”, it’s never been listed a hard requirement, nor is it a necessity for becoming staff.

I actually have first hand experience with this!

I applied for staff a couple of years ago without previously offering assistance over yell or help via alora cc and was promptly denied (which is okay lol). With that being said, I had full intentions of doing so afterwards if given the opportunity to join as a server support. Iirc, a staff member at the time commented on my lack of helping within alora cc so I felt compelled to start helping while my application was still open even though I intended to wait until after.

Now, once I actually joined alora cc and began offering assistance, I was shocked to realize how much I’d actually forgotten. I’ve been an end game Ironman for sooooo long that much of the early game or new player minutia had become totally forgotten to me.

To reiterate, in my case, I do think I would’ve been a beneficial addition to the staff team but was presumably not given the opportunity for not following the same linear path everyone else does. After my experience, I now also know that offering assistance over yell and in alora cc is a good way to become knowledgeable and will prepare future staff for the type of questions they’ll be receiving.

So, ultimately, I can see both sides but I think that giving more people an opportunity (so long as they have a good head on their shoulders, of course) despite not doing the usual yelling and allat would be beneficial long term.

Like Casual said, that is an alternative way of players knowing you and your assistance in offer.
Agree on the point of not being necessary as a req but staying in Alora clan chat while/before applying.
