#311485 The Graveyard...

Posted by Smiv on 23 August 2019 - 09:09 PM

Hello all, thank you for viewing this memorial service for the mourning of one of if not the most historic articles in Alora’s great community, the deaths of Smiv’s Hardcore Ironman... Men..Many men… These young men had no idea what they were getting into when they joined this crazy world but they knew one thing, they couldn't die! They would try to play their own game, but there was always one thing standing in their way, the pesky creator, Smiv. He would always have to make things difficult when the Hardcores were trying to have fun. All along Smiv really thought he could help their game and make something new out of these young men, but all he'd do is just get them false hope, making each one better in some way then another, just to fall just like the others. Smiv couldn't keep alive his own Hardcore Ironman so he would have to thieve and use others just to try and make himself better and he would then STILL fail from making himself known as the "HCIM extraordinaire". For these reasons and many many more, we send our thoughts and prayers to these men as we read about their stories.

21e9623c304ec597fc283de9a4ba35c4.png

Firstly the OG, @HC KAZOO 7b743a5195f42c8f34f2ba1e618ad41e.png was born into the community after creating a beautiful Kazoo creating in a Alora staff group Scribblo event. With such little information of the Hardcore ideas he was just around to have fun in the game. Enjoying the early game of low level skilling he decided to get into the combat grind and got some levels and new the brothers from the Barrow's hills are weak to magic and as many people in Alora do is send it at the Barrows minigame. Just four days into his reign, @Smiv decided to take over the account as the kill counts of Barrows were going up, and when he went to pray melee against the nasty Torag, he actually protected from RANGED against this warrior and Torag took advantage of this and slayed the killing HCIM to his death, thus concluding the run of @HC KAZOO. May he rest in peace.

 c379c78e3a6a0957e461edef22d66068.png

After two days of resting, we've returned with @Died2Torag b27cb36c8797a3680a5b8be572898ab9.png This time around, the young man took into account needing to get an idea for skilling, so he would take just a little more time getting some early game achievements and skilling done. But the same as the Kazoo, really wanted to get the revenge of Torag (hence the name). And thankfully he was not letting Torag take him down again on this journey and took it back to some skilling and actually passed the other Hardcores total levels! After this he decided to go and get some easy unique items for get over yell, and was successful in this, but also ended up being the fall of him after Dagannoth Rex took sneaky spawn on @Died2Torag and murdered him before he could get his protect from melee up just 18 days of being alive. Hallowed be his name.

 e161f057b01b703ad529e23c9b340bf3.png

Once again, taking a few weeks break to clear the mind, the Kazoo has returned as @Alive Kazood76189fd1daaf5bbe511acaf83dc3a3c.png . There were no goals made for this account, just LIVE since that was actually a hard thing to do for @Smiv . Just doing some normal skilling and combat like the others (nothing eventful happened), the Kazoo took a slayer task of Demonic Gorillas and thought this wouldn't be too hard, but with a mix of bad concentration and bad brain activity, the Demonic Gorilla slaughtered @Alive Kazoo ending his career as a HCIM. (There was no screenshot for the death level as it was used as a normal ironman for a bit but approx 1,300 total at death not much longer after making the account)

From another few weeks of breaking, the Kazoo tried to make a sneaky comeback with @Whos Kazoo f57bff92100726125265236cdd897f2e.png but was shortly spotted AFKing Karambwanji fishing. @Smiv knew what he was doing with this account and all it was was to be a background account, @Smiv was big into theatre of blood at the time so he was raiding often so he couldn't keep full eyes on the Hardcore so it was be an AFK skilling account hopefully but was off and on for quite a few months. But as the AFKing was happening, there was a bright idea to AFK slayer while raiding and a GREATER DEMON smited @Whos Kazoo , thus killing off the Kazoo's. ( Or did it?

05366db0adbe66c5b031bbac3d62b745.png

@Smiv needed a break, soon after he even left the Alora staff team after being bullied off the team. A couple months later, he tried to show them up for bullying him away, and making yet Another HC bringing @HAHASMIVNOOB c76304e83bd1000b2d47437e9a21fb72.png Again was a little sneaky to try and keep from being judged too much. This time around he was having fun with the game again, completing achievements left and right, not dying to Torag's with getting over 100 barrows kc! After even getting his first skill 90+ in all of the accounts, quite good and strong barrows items, he took his luck back to the Dagannoth kings, but oh no, @Smiv as joining the quite recent update at the time Castle Wars. Whilst of course being Demon Smiv in the Castle Wars mini-game, the big bad Dagannoth Rex once again decided to have an easy slap of @HAHASMIVNOOB and took him out quick and easy. Sit nerd.

ceca0f3a7fdb7c294a2dbd7421d2bc8b.png

Then @Smiv as flamed back into the staff team and everyone kept calling him Smic as a meme, so he took it into his hands to make she he gets the name Smic, and makes it of course a HCIM @Smic e2317b901afffc5b7adf90d83a894aff.png He made this with a goal of doing what big man @Some random did and so some wilderness achievements to hopefully help ensure that he would try and stick with this account and actually live on to max etc. And this was accomplished! He did one wilderness achievement! One more than all the others combined! @Smiv really thought he had it! While doing some routine skilling (routine as in things that have been done 5 times previously) he finally get little partner or a pet Beaver! As well as some routine skilling, he was going to do some little slayer (medium task if you will) and go kill some Kalphite Soldiers on task. Well while this was happening @Smiv thought "hey it's just Kalphites they won't do any harm" and went to go make some french fries so he can grow big and strong like @Lowkey . The Soldiers heard that and made a mission to attack @Smic , so when he least expected it, @Smic was trampled by many Kalphite Soldiers and murdered in cold blood.

0e236f00e09a2c90803940933ef35a5f.png

Please, HCIM owners, take good care of your Hardcore Ironmen. They too are just people, like all of us normies out there. These HCIM's don't ask to come into the community just to be killed and meme'd. I hope your guy's takeaway from this is to pay attention when playing your Hardcores when grinding them so you can all grow to be the best of the best. Best of luck to each and every one of you.

PSA: Hey guys, on a serious note thank you for viewing my thread! I wanna especially thank @DB Aspect for the sick banner for the thread and @Five for the idea to make this. It was a lot of fun to make this thread and relive these tragic moments for you guys! I hope you guys enjoyed and laughed as much as I did seeing how much of a pleb I am! See you guys in game and hopefully it's not because of me dying again...

#336880 QOL PVM: Adding Crush, Slash, Stab

Posted by rip joey on 13 February 2020 - 02:10 PM

A way to optimalize the ingame items and the upcoming Nightmare content

Current situation

Crush,Slash and Stab are the three different combat styles we currently have in Alora. At this time there is no or not any noticeable difference in using these styles on different kind of monsters. In the original game certain monsters and bosses are weak or protected from these styles and this creates certain ways to kill them best.

For example: Cerberus has high stab and slash defence, but is weak to crush. This would make a Bludgeon or Hasta a great option for this boss. There are much more other examples for stab and slash.

What will change?

This change would make items which are not regularly used, useful and interesting again. Examples are: Bludgeon Hasta, Warhammers and more. This would bring more balance to the game, as tent is now used 99% of the time when using melee.

Connection to the Nightmare

The Nightmare drops inquisitor armour, which boosts crush accuracy.

Not having a working crush function in PVM, would take much of the value of this armour. As this is a niche piece of content.

Feedback

Please leave feedback on this suggestion, along with a support or no support. Additions and idea's for this suggestion are very welcome in the comments.

#336752 Development Blog #9: The Nightmare of Ashihama

Posted by Omicron on 12 February 2020 - 07:05 PM

Hello everyone,

We want to keep everyone on the loop with what we're working on, and although we're juggling a few different exciting pieces of content, our current focus is on the OSRS's latest update: The Nightmare of Ashihama.

The Nightmare is a boss which can be fought by anywhere from 1 to 80 players, scaling based on the number of players in the room. Any players who meet the minimum damage threshold will be eligible for loot, with the player who dealt the most damage (MVP) receiving a significant boost to their loot.

Located in the Sisterhood Sanctuary under Slepe, any player with at least level 50 Combat can enter The Nightmare's realm after speaking with Shura. Shura will explain where the Nightmare came from and how she has managed to contain it, as well as the history of her people.

We're extremely excited to be able to bring this content to you shortly, and although we don't have an exact ETA due to the intricacies of the boss's combat mechanics, we are working as hard as we can to release this update as soon as possible and have already made significant progress.

Here are some previews of the content:

We hope you've enjoyed this development blog, and we look forward to having this update out in the very near future :)

Had a few neat hits on Lithuanian gold farmers today!

First took them for 10-0 in multiple way combat! (As a single team!) Some pretty neat lootations!

Hit them for another few kills in multi AGAIN afterwards!

Then baiting their leader Skill 99 out of ;;gamble and decimating him for max!

Also featuring some PRETTY impressive tanking by Fork/Socket in single, before he inevitably dies to a BARRAGE 15 seconds into being fulled! Very respectable.

#305415 Slayer Guide

cAetG6e.png

I. Introduction and General Information

Introduction

Slayer is a skill that allows players to kill monsters that may otherwise be immune to damage. Players must visit a Slayer master, who will assign them a task to kill certain monsters based on the player's Combat level. Slayer experience is roughly equal to a slain monster's hitpoints and is awarded each time the player kills an assigned monster.

General

  • Slayer tasks can be skipped or blocked to keep your slayer task streak at a cost of Slayer points. It costs 100 points to block a slayer task and the cost to skip depends on your donor rank.
    • Non-Donator & Regular Donator - 30 points
    • Super & Extreme Donator - 25 Points
    • Legendary & Uber Donator - 25 Points for Easy/Medium tasks & 20 Points for Hard/Konar tasks
    • Master & Immortal Donator - 20 Points for Easy/Medium tasks & 15 Points for Hard/Konar tasks
    • Wilderness Tasks cost 12 points to skip
  • Super Donators+ may also skip their task for free but this will reset their slayer task streak to 0
  • Players will receive large slayer point bonuses for completing every 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250 tasks
  • The Slayer Helmet can be created by using a Black Mask on a Spiny Helmet from the Slayer Shop. Imbuing the slayer helmet with an imbuement scroll allows the damage bonus to work for magic and ranged combat styles. (16.67% damage bonus for melee, and 15% bonus for ranged and magic)
  • Players can enable Duo-Slayer by using an enchanted gem to send a request to another player. Players of any mode can partner together. Players wishing to start a duo-slayer task must cancel their current task before pairing. Players must remove their duo-slayer partner via the enchanted gem to obtain a slayer task without the set partner.
    • Duo-slayer gives a 10% increase in points from slayer tasks and increases the speed of tasks
    • Players whose partner tries to use the free skip will now be prompted if they wish to accept the free skip, however their task streak will also be reset if the task is skipped.
      • If a player chooses to not accept this, they will keep their current task and be split from their partner.
    • Players can no longer partner up with another player if:
      • Their slayer level difference is higher than 10 levels.
      • Their combat level difference is higher than 10 levels.
  • Many lower-level monster tasks can be assigned that allow players to camp bosses for longer durations. Such as Black Demons for Demonic Gorillas, Hellhounds for Cerberus, Abyssal Demons for Abyssal Sire, Dagannoths for Dagannoth Kings and many more.
  • A ring of wealth or ring of wealth(i) can be worn to increase the chance to hit the rare drop table, obtain caskets, ensouled heads and Barrows items. Specific details on the rings can be found here.
  • You can view the number of monsters remaining on your task in your quest tab as well as any monster drop tables.
  • Vote books can now be used to obtain a 15% bonus to Slayer points
  • Completing the Morytania Achievement Diaries gives a percentage bonus to slayer points earned from tasks done in the Slayer Tower. 5% for Easy Diaries, 7.5% for Medium Diaries, 10% for Hard Diaries and 15% for the Elite Diaries.
  • Completing the Kourend Hard Diaries gives a 10% bonus to slayer points from Konar tasks.
  • These boosts are additive in their calculation. Meaning 1.0 + .15 for Vote bonus + .15 for a task done in the Slayer Tower with the Elite Diary completed would yield 1.3x the slayer points.

#336592 Revive - Fixing harpoons

Posted by Real Pivo on 11 February 2020 - 05:03 PM

Hello,

Before starting please, check the topic of Fiji Drip here.

The topic is still available within the suggestions but locked, tho no final statement has been given. (yet)

This is my attempt to revive/speed-up the suggestions related to the current harpoons in-game.

What is your suggestion?:
Make the current harpoons in-game match the same effects of catch rate and special attacks as in OSRS.

  • Dragon_harpoon.png?a09d3 The dragon harpoon is a wieldable harpoon that requires 61 Fishing to use and 60 Attack to wield, however the player cannot activate the special attack without wielding it.
    • It gives the player a 20% faster catch rate compared to the regular harpoon.
    • The dragon harpoon has a special attack, Fishstabber, that provides a visible +3 boost to Fishing. This consumes 100% of the player's special attack energy, though it cannot be used without the 60 Attack required to wield the harpoon.
  • Infernal_harpoon.png?241d4 The infernal harpoon, unboosted requirement of 75 fish and 85 cooking to create it with a smouldering stone.
    • 1/3 chance to cook your catch.
    • Same spec and catch rate as the regular variant.
  • Crystal_harpoon.png?41819 The crystal harpoon is an item used in Fishing. It requires 71 Fishing and Song of the Elves to create and use, with 50 Agility and 70 Attack required to wield it.
    • It possesses the same special attack as the dragon harpoon.
    • Has a 35% faster catch rate compared to a regular harpoon and 12.5% faster compared to dragon harpoon.
    • Players can create a crystal harpoon via a singing bowl by combining a dragon harpoon, 120 crystal shards and a crystal tool seed. Doing so requires level 76 Smithing and Crafting to sing the crystal (the levels can be boosted)

Source used:

OSRS Wiki

Is this in OSRS?:
Yes

Has this suggestion been accepted already?:
No, from what I could find the last harpoon update was during the update: [19/12/19] Christmas Giveaways, Sales, Events & more!
Quality of Life: Added harpoon/cage fishing spot to Piscarilius in Zeah

How would this benefit Alora?:
All other dragon/crystal equipment has it's special attack other than the harpoon.
Certain game modes may benefit greatly from the temporary +3 fishing boost.
With that being said...the increased catch rates of the dragon and crystal one will be in favor for all game modes.

With the release of nightmare of Ashihama and much other content which would be far more exciting for implementation, I still think it would be a nice QOL for the near future.
Feel free to correct any mistakes/add missing content made in this topic, only human after all.

Cheers

#255849 [12/01/19] Group Ironman is LIVE! (+Collection Log, Special Attack Orb, a...

Posted by Omicron on 12 January 2019 - 10:56 PM

group_slogan.png

Hey guys,

We’re extremely excited to announced that Group Ironman is now live! I’d like to deeply apologize for the significant delay from the announced release time, unfortunately we were not able to meet the deadline while still ensuring that the update was ready to be pushed. I know that many of of you were prepared a few hours ago, and I thank you for your patience since then! Our priority is ensuring that there aren’t any major bugs in new updates, and we’ve taken some extra time for this one considering it is a larger update. Nonetheless, the new game mode is ready to be played, and you can hop right into it! We’ve also included some other cool updates such as the Collection log and some much needed Theatre of Blood updates that we hope you’ll appreciate!

  • Group Ironman (team) mode is now available!
    • Group Ironman is a new game mode designed for Ironman who have more than one friend that they’d like to partner up with. Here are the details:
      • Experience rate:
        • 6x base rate
          • This rate is slightly faster than Elite Ironman mode (4x) and Classic mode (5x), but not as fast as Hardcore Ironman mode (8x). We think that this is a nice fit for the game mode, as it provides a challenging experience rate, yet it isn’t the most challenging for those of you who simply want to play as part of a group and not be on the most difficult game mode (Elite).
      • Experience bonuses:
        • The same limitations of the Elite game mode apply to GIMs. Typical XP bonuses such as the Well of Goodwill will give 50% of the usual bonus (15% rather than 30%), and Vote books can only be opened once every 12 hours.
      • Group feature:
        • A requested feature not only on Alora, but on OSRS as well, the Group feature will allow you to form a group of 4 other players to join you on your adventure.
          • Your team mates are the only other players you could trade with, and are permanent. Once you reach 5 players total, no new players can be added to the team (or removed).
          • There is no time limit for when you can add players to the team, but once the team is full no changes can be made.
          • You can use the Group Ironman Orb in the house west of Edgeville to configure your team.
      • Highscores: (**The Highscores for Group Ironman will be available within 24 hours**)
      • Vote books:
        • You can only open a vote book once every 12 hours.
        • You cannot open another vote book if you still have bonus XP.
      • Bonds/donations:
        • Bonds are the only item you can transfer from your main to your GIM.
        • The same donation rules that apply to other ironmen/classics apply to GIM (mostly cosmetic only).
      • Clan chat:
        • “Group” clan chat will be auto-joined for GIM players (if not already full).
      • Gold:
        • Similar to Elites, Group Ironmen receive half the usual gold.
      • Bloody keys:
        • Although the poll results were very close, we’ve decided to block GIMs from picking up Bloody keys, at least for the first little while. We very well may allow these to be looted in the near future, though.
      • De-ironing:
        • At the moment, de-ironing is not a possibility for Group Ironmen. This is due to the fact that teams are final, and once 5 players have formed a team it is something that should be permanent.

  • Miscellaneous:
    • Spiky d’hide vambraces now all have the correct Ranged level requirements.
    • Fixed some pink pixels that would sometimes flash around the inventory area (visual bug)
    • Fixed a typo when receiving rare loot from a clue scroll (news yell)
    • Default clan chat changes:
      • Upon attempting to enter the “Alora” clan chat, if it is full you will be redirected to a “Help” channel (eg. “Help” or “Help1”).
    • Random events will no longer affect players in the Wilderness, due to them freezing the player and cancelling out combat.
    • The Antisanta outfit is now tradable. (Custom set)
    • KOTS winners from December added to the PvM Cup:
      • (1. Unknown, 2. Sololite, 3. 2 Ridiculous)
    • Mist battlestaff stand and attack animations have been fixed.
    • Mist battlestaff requirements (30 attack 30 magic) have been added.
    • Items such as the Arcane spirit shield will no longer protect over the Elysian spirit shield.
  • Woodcutting improvements:
    • The 3rd age axe can now be used to chop trees.
    • Cutting speed changes:
      • The rate at which you get logs from a tree will now be significantly based on the type of axe you use, with Dragon / 3rd age pickaxes being the fastest to chop with.
      • This won’t bring much change unless you’re using a bad axe.
        • For example, if you’ve been using a Dragon axe to cut Magic logs, you won’t see much of a difference in the rate at which you obtain logs. If you’ve been using a Bronze axe, though, you’ll definitely notice that it takes longer to successfully obtain logs.
  • Christmas removals:
    • The following have been removed from Alora:
      • Christmas event
      • Snow
      • Christmas tree + snowfall objects
      • Christmas giveaway + Haris NPC
  • Abyssal dagger poison:
    • You can now use weapon poison on the Abyssal dagger to convert it to the (p), (p+) or (p++) version.
  • Special attack energy orb:
    • An orb has been added to show you how much special attack energy you currently have.
      • This orb will be hidden along with all the others if you toggle the “Data orbs” setting.
  • Theatre of Blood loot changes:
    • Passage changes:
      • When going through a passage, usually HP and Prayer are restored (as well as any lowered combat skills).
        • We’ve also made it so that special attack energy and run energy is restored, and any poison is cured upon passing through to the next room.
    • Loot changes:
      • We’ve changed the way in which you receive rare loot in the Theatre of Blood, making it more similar to OSRS. Firstly, the rate of obtaining any rare drop from doing a raid has increased across the board by approximately 17%.
      • Aside from this, and being the most major change, we’re changing the percentage chance of obtaining each rare item once you have already hit the rare loot table. The Scythe of Vitur will become much more rare, and certain items (Avernic defender, for example) are becoming much more common.
        • With that being said, these are the approximate percentages of landing each item after this update:
          • 43.5% - Avernic defender
          • 34.8% - Justiciar piece (11.6% chance for each piece)
          • 10.1% - Sanguinesti staff
          • 7.9% - Ghrazi rapier
          • 3.7% - Scythe of Vitur
        • The visual chart below will show you these percentages more clearly. This was calculated based on OSRS rates, but the only difference is that we’ve made all of the Justiciar pieces the same % rate (11.6%) and removed 1% chance from the defender.
        • We have not changed the rate of obtaining Lil’ Zik.
  • Collection Log:
    • The Collection log has been added!
      • You can access your own collection log through the Quest tab, by clicking on the “View Collection Log” button.
      • The collection log tracks your drops from bosses, pets you’ve obtained, minigame items you’ve earned, raids loot, clue loot, slayer unlocks and more!
      • Any items that are already obtained by you and are untradable will already be counted in the Collection log, but any tradable items (Eg. Abyssal whip) will not show up from previous drops. This is necessary as we can’t be sure whether or not the items that are currently in-game were earned or purchased from other players, and the collection log is designed to only track and count loot that you have earned yourself. To make it fair for everyone, all game modes are starting at the same place (only untradables are unlocked).
        • We’ve attempted to identify combination items as well, for example the Dragon defender (g) will unlock the Dragon defender on first log on. Another example is that if you have the Vorkath slayer helmet, it will unlock Vorkath’s head drop in your collection log.
  • Welcome screen upgrade:
    • Clickable buttons:
      • The email block (top right) can now be clicked to open up your forum inbox.
      • The store/token block (bottom right) can now be clicked to open up the store on the website.
    • Hovers:
      • Both the email block, store block and the “Click here to play” buttons will now all light up when you hover your mouse over them.
  • Well of Goodwill fee increase:
    • Since Alora launched over 2 years ago, we’ve had the same cost for the Well of Goodwill, which is 25m GP per 90 minutes. Considering that the economy is quite established, and 25m is not as costly as it was on launch, we’re raising this amount to 100m GP. We’d like for the well to be more expensive so that the donations stand out and are more appreciated, and there is the added benefit of the extra gold being removed from the game will have a positive effect on the economy.
      • With this change, the announcement for big donations to the well has been increased from 2.5m to 10m.
      • To encourage players to donate items into the well more often, we’re increasing the amount of GP that items are worth to the well by 50%. This means that instead of the item being worth half of the exchange price when donating it, it will be worth 75% of the exchange price.
  • Skill tab update:
    • When hovering over a skill, the numbers will now be formatted.
      • For example
      • Firemaking XP:  100000
        • -> Firemaking XP: 1,000,000
    • When hovering over a skill, you will now be shown the amount of XP remaining until your next level.
