Hello everyone,

The time has finally come for players to set sail on the seas of Alora! After many months of working on our most challenging project yet, we are finally ready to go live with Alora's 24th skill, Sailing. We're proud to be the first RSPS to be able to provide this experience, and as always we will continue to strive to get the latest content released to you as quickly as we can.

You can now log in and begin Sailing by heading to Port Sarim where you will be given your starter raft to begin your journey as a sailor. As of right now, ship combat, trawling, and crew recruitment are not included in this update, but will come in a future update not too far off -- in the meantime, there is an abundance of content to get you started, including Courier tasks, Ocean encounters, Shipwreck Salvaging, Boat customization, Barracuda Trials & more!

In other news, we've released the long-awaited and highly-requested Cooking NPC (not a meme btw), we've upgraded the Cosmetic mystery box with a few new items, released a brand new Sailing mystery box for peak Fashionscape to go along with the Sailing release, and we've also released our final and highest Donator rank -- Divine Donator. We'll let you read the full update notes below:

  • Sailing:
    • What is Sailing?
      • For those of you not in the know, Sailing is a new skill that requires players to build and customize their own boats, and take to the high-seas, engaging in various sea-worthy activities to earn experience and rewards.
    • Restrictions:
      • Players will not be able gain sailing experience through experience lamps, dark relics, or tears of guthix for the first week of release, until September 12th.
      • Mobile players who use the “Legacy renderer” will not be able to access this skill.
        • Any mobile player wishing to sail must turn the Legacy renderer off on the login screen.
    • Boat Types:
      • There are 3 types of boats:
        • Raft:
          • Rafts are the smallest type of boat which can hold only 1 facility at a time, and requires level 1 sailing to purchase.
        • Skiff:
          • Skiffs are a larger tier of boat which can hold up to 7 facilities at a time, and requires level 15 sailing to purchase.
        • Sloop:
          • Sloops are the larger tier of boat which can hold up to 11 facilities at a time, and requires level 50 sailing to purchase.
    • Plugins:
      • Players can access the Sailing plugin (both on mobile and desktop), as well as the port tasks, barracuda trials pathfinder, and turning circles plugins (desktop only).
    • Every player will start with a wooden raft, which they will automatically receive, and is docked at Port Sarim.
      • It’s not much, but this is where you’ll start your career as a sailor.
    • Players can earn experience through various methods:
      • Occasionally while sailing, your ship’s sails will begin to pick up gusts of wind. Clicking on your sails to trim them will provide a small amount of experience and boost your ship’s speed temporarily.
      • Salvaging:
        • Players will see many shipwrecks spread out around the seas.
          • There are 8 different types of shipwrecks that players can salvage, each providing their own unique type of salvage.
            • Players will likely start their journey by salvaging small shipwrecks for small salvage at level 15 sailing.
              • This will provide 10 experience per salvage obtained.
        • The shipwrecks players salvage will rotate to new positions every so often, so players may need to move their boats to new locations to continue collecting salvage.
        • Players must have a salvaging hook on their boat to collect salvage.
          • Salvage can be stored in a player’s cargo hold on their boat.
        • Once a player collects salvage, they can sort it at a sorting station for sailing experience and rewards, which can be found at many ports, or build right onto your ship.
        • For more details on shipwreck types/rewards we recommend checking out the OSRS wiki:
      • Barracuda Trials:
        • Barracuda trials are races that players must complete to earn rewards/experience.
          • Each Barracuda trial has 4 difficulties to choose from.
            • Unranked:
              • There is no time to beat, and no pressure, but rewards and experience won’t be as good as higher tiers.
            • Swordfish:
              • This is the easiest/first timed trial. Once players beat the time required, they will be rewarded unique loot, bonus experience, and be given access to the next difficulty tier (Shark).
            • Swordfish:
              • This is the middle difficulty trial. Once players beat the time required, they will be rewarded unique loot, bonus experience, and be given access to the next difficulty tier (Marlin).
            • Marlin:
              • This is the hardest difficulty trial. Once players beat the time required, they will be rewarded unique loot, and a large amount of bonus experience.
            • Players can repeat the trials at any difficult they want, provided they have it unlocked.
        • All barracuda trials must be done on a Skiff, and with no other players on your ship.
        • There are 3 tiers of Barracuda trials:
          • The Tempor Tantrum:
            • This is the first Barracuda trial, which players can do at level 30 Sailing.
            • It takes place in the Storm Tempor, which will require boats to have an Iron helm, Oak masts, and linen sails at the minimum to sail through.
            • To begin, players must sail over to Rum-dashed Ralph and speak to him to start the race.
              • The goal of this race is to gather the required amount of lost supply crates by sailing near them.
                • Players will also need to pay a visit (or two) to the nearby rum boat to pickup the rum shipment.
                  • Once players have collected the required amount of lost supplies/rum, they can deliver it to Rum-dashed Ralph to complete the trial.
          • The Jubbly Jive:
            • This is the second Barracuda trial, which players can do at level 55 sailing.
              • This takes place in the Backwater, which will require ships to have an inoculation station, and mithril helm (at least) to sail through.
            • To start the trial, speak to Gurtob and Ros.
              • The goal of this trial is similar, requiring players to also collect the correct amount of lost supplies, but at the same time players will need to collect specific Jubbly birds.
                • Jubbly birds are collected by luring them to various outcrops and baited them with balloon toads.
                  • Balloon toads are obtained from a nearby supply boat.
                  • Players can throw balloon toads at the outcrops to lure nearby bubbly birds.
              • The Backwater is littered with fetid pools which will drastically slow down ships if they are not being boosted by gusts of wind.
          • The Gwenith Glide:
            • This is the third and final Barracuda trial, which players can do at level 72 Sailing.
              • This takes place in crystal waters near Port Gwenith, requiring an Adamant keel (at least) to sail through.
            • To start this trial, speak to Gwyna.
              • The goal of this trial is to collect the required amount of lost supplies, as well as imbuing the correct Crystals of Ithell.
                • Once all the supplies are correct and all required crystals are imbued, players will be teleported to the start point and complete the race.
      • Courier Tasks:
        • Every major port will have a port task board, which players can interact with.
          • On these boards, players will see various tasks to deliver crate shipments to/from the dock they’re currently at.
            • If a task is accepted, players can grab the crates from the Ledger table and store them in their cargo hold.
              • Some tasks will require players to take/deliver multiple crates at a time, and so players may have crewmates helping them load and unload crates depending on their sailing level and boat type.
                • At most 2 crewmates will help players on skiffs.
                • At most 5 crewmates will help players on sloops.
                • The amount of crewmates that help players will depend on if they have the sailing level to hire that crewmate:
              • Completing deliveries will reward players with a certain amount of sailing experience based on the distance travelled and level required for the task, and a small amount of gold.
          • Task boards also have a refresh option, where players can refresh the visible tasks on the board if they do not like any of them.
            • This defaults to 3 resets every hour, but more resets are given based on donator rank.
              • Eternal: Unlimited
              • Immortal: 25
              • Master: 20
              • Uber: 15
              • Legendary: 12
              • Extreme: 8
              • Super: 5
              • Regular donator: 4
            • Players can also force a task reset by visiting a different task board at a different port.
          • Players can freely cancel tasks that they took that they no longer wish to complete.
      • Charting:
        • Sea charting is an activity players can perform as they sail throughout the seas.
          • In your cargo hold, you’ll be able to grab an item called the “Captain’s log”.
            • This will be your guide to sea charting, as it help you keep track of all the tasks you’ve completed/need to complete in any given sea.
        • There are a total of 358 charting tasks, and completing all of them gives 100,000 base sailing experience.
          • Each tasks also give some sailing experience, with bonuses being provided when completing all the tasks in a given sea.
            • Completing all the tasks will give players a combined total of 691,270 sailing experience.
        • There are multiple types of charting tasks players can do:
          • Generic charting: This requires charting an object on land or by boat (mostly by boat), simply by interacting with it.
          • Spyglass: This requires sailing to a specific point, and using your spyglass (which can be obtained from the cargo hold) to get a good view of the area.
          • Crates: Players will find sealed crates and must open them and sample their contents:
            • WARNING: some of drinks that come out of these crates may be very dangerous.
              • Players will be warned before drinking them.
          • Diving: This will require players to answer a riddle to get help from a mermaid.
          • Weather: This requires players to help meteorologist trolls chart the weather.
          • Current Duck: This requires players to release a current duck (found in their cargo hold) and follow it to its end point to chart the current.
    • Ocean Encounters:
      • These are effectively ocean “random events”. They appear every so often as long as boat is moving.
      • Types of ocean encounters:
        • Strong winds:
          • When sailing into the strong winds, a player can trim their sails repeatedly for additional speed and experience.
        • Mysterious glow:
          • Sailing over the mysterious glows will spawn a new mysterious glow a few tiles away, giving increasingly more Sailing experience and rewarding an uncut gem after the final glow.
        • Lost Crate:
          • Lost crates can occasionally be found floating in the water and can be collected. There are multiple tiers of crates, scaling with the player's Sailing level, with increasingly valuable loot.
        • Castaway:
          • Castaways can be retrieved, then dropped off at a gangplank or mooring point for an experience reward.
        • Giant Clam:
          • A giant clam can be fed an item, then the next time it is encountered it will have polished that item into a pearl that can be harvested.
        • Clue Turtle:
          • Retrieving clue turtles will give a player a clue scroll.
        • Ocean Man:
          • When spoken to, Ocean Man will give the player a cocktail. Fun!
        • Lost Casket:
          • Lost caskets can be retrieved that give a single roll of the reward casket of the respective tier.
      • These encounters are not all equally likely, some encounters (such as strong winds) will appear much more frequently than others.
    • Boat customization:
      • Players can speak to a Shipwright to customize their boats at any time.
        • Shipwright seb is around to sell players various things they may need to upgrade their ship.
      • Players can use the Boat schematics board to upgrade/downgrade core boat components, such as their hull, helm, mast and sails, and keel.
        • Players can also recolour their sails, but this will require 10 of a specific color of dye.
          • Dyes will be obtainable through sorting salvage, barracuda trials, and courier tasks.
            • The rates of obtaining dyes vary on the difficulty/tier/duration of the tasks.
        • Players will require a specific construction and sailing level to upgrade certain boat components.
          • If a player does not have the required construction level, a shipwright can be paid a fee to apply the changes for you in certain cases.
      •  To upgrade boat facilities, players must be on their boat (which will be docked in the shipyard).
        • Similar to construction, players can click hotspots to build or upgrade their facilities.
          • Players can also use facility bottles to store a facility to easily move it (or store it for later) without destroying it and losing the materials.
      • Some facilities/upgrades will be locked behind specific item requirements, or schematics that the players must hunt for on various islands.
    • Islands:
      • There are over 27 new dockable islands that players can reach, each of them holding something unique.
        • Most islands have a specific sailing requirement to dock your boat, as well as potentially being in hazardous waters, which will require specific boat upgrades to survive in.
    • Unavailable content:
      • As of right now, ship combat, trawling, and crew recruitment are not included in this update, but will come in a future update not too far off.
    • And much more!
      • There’s a lot of content in this new skill, and plenty to discover, so rather than write you a book, we’ll let you explore it on your own.
  • Cooking NPC:
    • After many, many, long awaited years, the cooking npc has finally arrived.
    • The head chef in the cooking guild will now cook noted raw food for players for a fee.
      • To do so, players must have level 99 cooking, and have completed the Lumbridge & Draynor elite diaries as well as the Varrock elite diaries.
    • The cost to cook the food is by default 4,000 gold per food cooked.
      • Donators will have a lower cost to cook the food.
        • Divine Donators: 1,000 coins per food
        • Eternal Donators: 2,000 coins per food
        • Immortal Donators: 2,500 coins per food
        • Master donators: 2,750 coins per food
        • Uber Donators: 3,000 coins per food
        • Legendary Donators: 3,250 coins per food
        • Extreme Donators: 3,500 coins per food.
      • Furthermore, players who have 200 million cooking experience will receive a 50% discount on all cooked food, reducing the base cost per food cooked to 2,000 coins.
      • Ironman accounts will need to pay a higher premium of 6,000 coins per food as the base cost.
    • The cooking npc is fast, but he’s not magic.
      • He needs time to cook the food, so as it stands, he cooks one piece of food every 30 seconds.
        • He can also only accept up to 1,000 noted food of one type at a time, so orders cannot be stacked, and players will need to regularly pop in to collect their cooked food and put in a new order.
        • This means, if a player puts in a maximum quantity order (for example 1,000 raw sharks), it would take the cooking npc 8 hours and 20 minutes to finish cooking all the fish.
  • Summer Sweep Up:
    • Reduced Chivalry's drain rate to match Deadeye and Mystic Vigour, draining 1 point per 3 seconds.
    • Lowered the Light & Heavy Ranged Defence for Abyssal Guardians and Abyssal Walkers to 0, down from 70 and 75 respectively.
    • Lowered the Crush Defence for Abyssal Guardians to 0, down from 70.
    • When adding logs to a bonfire, if the player has only one type of log they will no longer get the skilling input, it will just add the logs right away.
    • Chambers of Xeric Rare Drop Rebalancing:
      • Changes have been made to how rare items are rolled once the purple drop table has been rolled.
      • The changes essentially boil down to making some items that were far more common, such as dragon claws, elder maul, and korai insignia slightly less common and bump up some items that were less common, such as the twisted bow and ancestral items.
      • The chance to hit the rare table and obtain a purple chest has not been changed.
    • The Colossal worm agility course agility obstacles now take more time.
      • The advanced course takes about ~40% longer, while the basic course is about 25% longer to make it more AFK.
        • To compensate for this, the experience gained at the end of the course has been increased, as well as the number of termites/bone shards.
    • Bird houses:
      • Number of rolls for nests from all tiers of birdhouse lowered from 10 to 5.
        • The rate of nests has been increased by 3x though, so players are more likely to get them than before.
      • XP Changes (nerfs):
        • Regular birdhouse XP decreased by 60%.
        • Oak birdhouse XP decreased by 60%.
        • Willow birdhouse XP decreased by 60%.
        • Teak birdhouse XP decreased by 60%.
        • Maple birdhouse XP decreased by 55%.
        • Mahogany birdhouse XP decreased by 50%.
        • Yew birdhouse XP decreased by 40%.
        • Magic birdhouse XP decreased by 15%.
        • Redwood birdhouse XP unchanged.
    • Falconry:
      • Players will no longer be locked when their falcon has left their arm to catch a kebbit.
    • Aerial Fishing:
      • Increased the “Quick catch” distance from a 5x5 area to a 7x7 area.
      • Players can now unlock the ability for their cormorant to eat whole fish, rather than requiring fish offcuts.
        • To unlock this, speak to Alry the angler and pay him 20 molch pearls.
      • Molch pearls are now 50% more common.
    • Deadfall traps:
      • Players can now set 2 deadfall traps at a time rather than 1.
      • Deadfall traps now have a 75% chance to preserve your log when placing a trap.
      • Experience gained from Wild/barbed/prickly/sabre-toothed kebbits, and pyre foxes have been reduced.
    • The drop rate for butterfly hunter rumour parts is now twice as high, 1/40 up from 1/75.
    • Guardians of the Rift:

      • This will allow players who prefer the old school look to have it while also having access to particles, hd water/lava, weather, dynamic skybox, etc…
      • Many settings which are controlled/disabled will be hidden in the Alora Client Settings plugin when this setting is enabled.
    • Fixed some visual issues, such as equipment clipping.

      • This may happen after a disconnection or if the player force closes the client.
      • As always, if the player is in combat with a player or NPC in the wilderness, it will be treated as an X-Log, and the player will not be able to log back in until the X-log timer kicks the player off.
    • Building a vale totem now restores 15% run energy.
    • Players must now only have a demonbane weapon equipped at the time of Skotizo's death, rather than for the entire kill to complete the Demonbane Weaponry combat achievement.

    • A bug where your pet would go missing but then re-appear on login has been fixed -- it will no longer go missing at all.
  • Divine Donator Rank:
    • A new Donator rank has been added! This is Alora's final donator rank, representing a level of prestige higher than the previous rank, with a total spent of $50,000 required to obtain it. Not many will be able to obtain this rank, adding to its elusiveness, and the perks will reflect the difficulty of obtaining this rank. For players who are interested in only obtaining the rank and not any store items, there is the 1:4 custom donation option, which will allow you to upgrade to the new rank at 25% of the price.
    • Perks:
      • Forum:
        • Unlimited storable PMs
        • Profile pictures (animated) can be up to 7.5mb.
        • Username on forums is displayed with a pulsating green glow / outline, along with a divine green sparkle effect.
        • In-game icon is a platinum logo with a divine green stripe through the middle.
        • Forum usernames for divines will be slightly larger than other ranks.
      • Game:
        • All Eternal Donator perks (enhanced), notably:
          • Drop rate (general) boosted by 21% rather than 19% (Eternal)
          • Inferno start wave at 57 rather than 53 (Eternal)
          • Vote time 2x than the normal time, and 19 extra points upon opening vote books. (Rather than 1.75x / 17 points for Eternal)
          • 20% increased chance of receiving pets from skilling / bosses. (Rather than 15% for Eternal)
            • This 20% also applies when gambling your Fire cape or Infernal cape for a new pet.
        • Unique Benefits:
          • 25% extra time on all opened Booster scrolls (eg. Drop booster, Raid booster, etc)
          • Ability to set a custom color (HEX code) for your in-game title.
          • Ability to set a custom color (HEX code) for your skin color.
            • This gives you the ability to have any skin color you would like on your character, with millions of possibilities.
          • Custom yell tag:
            • You can now change the text that appears next to your yell, for example:
              • [Ironman] Omicron: Hello
              • [The Great] Omicron: Hello
            • The color of your tag will still match your rank and cannot be changed.
          • Custom pet names:
            • You can name your pets that are following you to whatever you'd like, eg. "Tauri Jr", and it will appear for other players.
            • You can have different names for different pets, so your Heron can always be "Epic Heron" and your House pet can be "Home".
            • Maximum of 12 characters per pet name. (Same as Username)
          • No point loss on Raids death.
          • No kills required to enter a GWD boss room.
          • Free Instances:
            • Divines can create instances completely free of charge, no need for any coins or Instance tokens.
          • Divine donators will receive some upgraded items from the Kingdom of Miscellania.
            • Raw Anglerfish instead of raw sharks
            • Raw Manta rays instead of raw monkfish
            • Teak/Mahogany planks instead of teak/mahogany logs

            • You can right-click the pet and choose "Strike" to have it perform a cosmetic Saradomin strike on you.
        • Divine donator cape:
          • This cape, bearing the Divine colors, will also have particle trail effects on HD / GPU / 117HD.
        • Skin color:
          • All previous rank skin colors are available, as well as the Rainbow skin color being available for free for Divine donators.

  • Store changes:
    • Sailing Mystery Box (Ironman accessible):
      • A new mystery box has been added!
        • Ahoy! With the release of Sailing, we've added a nautical-themed mystery box packed with pirate, sailor and beach cosmetics. As with the Cosmetic mystery box, Ironman/Realism modes can purchase this box, as it strictly contains cosmetics that do not provide an in-game advantage.
        • This box is also the only way (outside of Sailing itself) to get your hands on some of our custom sailing/beach items, such as the Clam shell backpack, Canoe, Hawaiian shirts and more!
        • Many different items can be obtained from the box, including:
          • ULTRA rare loot:
            • Deep sea helmet & Deep sea apparatus (gold-trimmed)
            • Clam shell backpack
            • Canoe (mobility item, similar to Mine cart)
            • Straw pirate outfit (full set awarded if received)
            • Partyhat & specs
          • Rare loot:
            • Tier 1: Ale of the gods, Heavy casket, Gnomeball (exclusive to this box), and custom beach items such as Hawaiian shirts (yellow/pink/blue), Hat and sunglasses, and the Beach coconut

            • Sail dyes:
              • A special roll that awards 10 x Sail dye in one of 7 colours (Black, Yellow, Purple, Green, Blue, Pink, Red) — exactly enough to dye your ship's sail!
          • Regular loot:
            • Pirate gear of all kinds: Pirate/tricorn hats (all colours), eyepatches, bandanas, bandana eyepatches, stripy pirate shirts, pirate leggings
            • Naval shirts & navy slacks (all colours)
            • Musketeer outfit, Sailor's amulet, Pirate's hook, Shoulder parrot, Beads of the dead, Cleaver, Lucky cutlass, Lyre, Brine sabre, and more.
      • Cost: 50 tokens
      • Notes:
        • This item is tradable.
        • Although it is intended for ironmen, it can also be purchased by normal game mode players.
    • Cosmetic Mystery Box Additions:
      • Four new tradable cosmetics have been added to the Cosmetic mystery box's "Rare" pool, the 2nd most common category:
        • Rainbow cape — a colourful cape constructed with beautiful rainbow fabrics
        • Rainbow crown shirt — can be swapped between 8 different variants
        • Rainbow jumper -- can be swapped between 9 different variants
        • Love crossbow -- wield it and use the "Enamor" option on another player to fire a volley of harmless hearts at them. Cannot be used in the wilderness.

    • Fixed a bug where players couldn't move some facilities from their skiff to their sloop (or vice versa) with a facility bottle.

    • Added sailing to the hiscores/hiscores plugin.

    • Players can now store flax/hemp/cotton/camphor/ironwood/rosewood seeds in the seed vault.
    • Adjusted growth times for new farming patches.
      • Also adjusted the time tracking plugin to correctly show the growth.

    • Fixed a bug where some areas on mobile would get VERY choppy (fps would drop to 5-10 fps).
