My suggestion is to make users you have on your friends list (who are online) appear in alphabetical order. This will make it easier to find users and reply back to them if you have a long list. It is currently like this for clan-chats so i'm sure its possible to do this for the friends list. This would also benefit people who are part of help CC's and staff in-game who gets swarmed with PM's.
