Eh, this week has not been the greatest to some of the staff members. Sigh.

I'm happy to see that a demotion has not stopped you from making weekly newspapers. Keep up the good work.

Next newspaper will be in 2017, so hopefully there are better things to come!

Happy holidays and welcome to another awesome addition of the Alora Newspaper.

6e2650e65e5457d0a5aa760a7adcbacc23c6b499

This week we saw a nice batch of updates from Omicron and our new developer GameDevJason.

Miscellaneous:

A portal to leave the Mage arena miniquest has been added
This is due to many people getting stuck inside without runes to fight with Magic
Monkeys can no longer steal from stalls quicker
Stamina potions can now be decanted
Mithril seeds now use the correct OSRS rates for flower spawning(rather than completely random)
New rates :
a283280c26644a1ca595449f3d445cff.png

Clanchat fixs:
Although we're not completely done with this, clan chats will now save properly on logout.
We're currently in the midst of testing ranks, and those will be included in the near future.
Purple dots now appear on the minimap for members in your clan

Money Casket Rewards
There are now three types of money caskets. The first tier now grants between 50 and 100k, the second tier grants between 75 and 110k and the third tier grants between 100 and 125k. The first tier requires a monster to have between 1-50 combat, the second requires 51 and 150, and the third is anything exceeding that. Any player with a current chest before this update has a tier 3 chest, enjoy!

Coins for Reclaimables on Death
When a player dies in the wilderness with an item on their person that is reclaimable will have 50% of the reclaimable cost dropped in the form of coins for the killer. The purpose of this is to give back some of the money that is leaving the economy so that players that focus on player killing can make more money whilst doing so.

This section of the newspaper is one of my favorites to do, it's time to announce which member has been outstanding this week. This week's winner is no different from any of the past winners. He has been helping out extremely well and has been doing it an an ordealy fashion. We would look to announce that Drako has been choosen as player of the week.

Drako will recieve a prize of 10M. Please pm me when you get the chance for details.

 This week we interviewed NexusGod

Thunder: Alora has been on a steady pace since we launched, even though we had some mishaps in the beginning, is there anything you think needs to be changed in order to maintain our current pace and continue to grow?

Nexusgod: Yes, Omicron needs to communicate with the player more, I hardly get to see him. There is also times when bugs are here for too long and Omicron has gone silent, this needs to change for this to be fixed.

Thunder: I see, well Omicron just hired a new developer so that updates can come out in a faster pace, apart from updates is there anything else you'd like to see?

Nexusgod: Yeah, I've seem alot of him around the forums which is awesome to be honest. Having him communicate with us is key for improvements. As to your other question, I feel that donater benefits needs to be readjusted. For example right now as an extreme donator, there are some super donator benefits that I have lost, for example I'm not alerted when my farming patches are done. Something I did have when I was a super donator.

Thanks for reading this week's newspaper. Feel free fre suggest any additions for next week's edition on a post below.

This is not too serious so I will not go into detail about this.

Ice barrage should be at the bottom left instead of where it is, currently it's at a wrong spot.

It's feels weried trying to barrage :)

#34522 Development Blog #2

Posted by GameDevJason on 22 December 2016 - 11:46 AM

Hello,

The following are a list of changes that have either been applied, or are going to be applied in the next few days. The following are player driven suggestions, I have to applaud the amount of suggestions being made on a weekly basis. Keep it up, if your suggestion didn't make the bunch there is always next week.

  • Gambling Command
    • The ::gamble and ::gambling commands have been implemented to allow players more ease of access when gambling.
  • Agility Cape
    • The cape can be worn in place of the Graceful Cape to gain the Graceful Set effect.
  • Coal Bag
    • Players can now obtain a coal bag which will allow them to store between 27 and 36 coal. Store coal ore in the bag, and while smithing you will use coal from the bag instead of your inventory to create bars.
  • Zul-Andra Teleport Item
    • This item allows any player to quickly teleport the Zul-Andra area for quick return.
  • Purchase Bulk Runes
    • Aubury knows a bit more english, he can now sell 2 groups of runes sets; Vengerance and Barrage runes. Each set contains 1,000 casts which allows for easy and quick restocking. This however comes at a 7% interest. What do you guys think of this?
  • Money Casket Rewards
    • There are now three types of money caskets. The first tier now grants between 50 and 100k, the second tier grants between 75 and 110k and the third tier grants between 100 and 125k. The first tier requires a monster to have between 1 and 50 combat, the second requires 51 and 150, and the third is anything exceeding that. Any player with a current chest before this update has a tier 3 chest, enjoy!
  • Coins for Reclaimables on Death
    • When a player dies in the wilderness with an item on their person that is reclaimable will have 50% of the reclaimable cost dropped in the form of coins for the killer. The purpose of this is to give back some of the money that is leaving the economy so that players that focus on player killing can make more money whilst doing so.

Thanks!

Jason

The Interview process as been changed. Strato has Volunteered to do the interviews for the newspaper from now on. This week he interviews Elvemage & Omicron

Elvemage's Interview

Strato: You've proven yourself worthy of every staff position you've ever held in Alora, what is the #1 advice you can give to non-staff members who have been applying for the team?

Elvemage: The most important advice I can give about being a staff member is that you've got to understand the need of the player.
The conversation between a regular player and a staff member has to be effective.
Let him know you're taking the question seriously even if the question is silly.
This will make the indivual happy after you helped him out and that's all we need as a crew.

Strato: If there was one thing you could improve about yourself, what would it be, and why?

Elvemage: I'm taking my postion very seriously. I also know I could improve myself in many ways. I feel I need to focus more on prioritizing things.
With the ever-increasing player base, I get an extremely large amount of PMs every day, from something extremely silly, to something of utmost importance. I will try my best in
prioritizing the issues so that everything gets handled the right way.

Strato: You clearly dedicate a lot of time in contributing towards Alora, What do you get in return?

Elvemage: I do not think of my role as a moderator, a chore at all. It is the simple joy of helping out the server overall that motivates me.  I do what I love and love what I do.

Omicron's Interview

Strato: As the founder and developer, where do you see Alora in the near future?

Omicron: Alora has always exceeded my expectations, and we've grown and flourished more than I had anticipated in the past month and a half. Taking that into consideration, I could only expect the same for the future. I intend to do my best to provide the most enjoyable experience for the community, as well as future prospective members.

Strato: You've seen some good days, as well as some rough ones. What keeps you going?

Omicron: Some days are definitely better than others! There have been days where it seems that everything that can go wrong has gone wrong, but we've always managed to persevere and come back even stronger. I could not do it without the support of the community though, otherwise I'd feel like I'm in this all alone. I can't express how crucial the staff team's support has been, especially during those bad days where they all work together to keep things in order. When things aren't going great and I get discouraged, I also remind myself of how many people in the community love and enjoy playing Alora, and how I'd be letting them down if I didn't give it my all.

Strato: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be, and why?

Omicron: One of my not-so-great qualities is that I'm not always as calm and collected as I could be during stressful situations, and consequently I tend to not think rationally. Tying in with the previous answer, there are times when I could become irritable if I'm stressed out, which isn't good at all.

Special thanks to Strato for helping me this week!

Thanks for reading this week's newspaper. Feel free fre suggest any additions for next week's edition on a post below.  :)

#23743 Loosing weight and transforming into muscle help needed

Posted by OzScorcher on 29 November 2016 - 05:12 PM

First of all, you cannot 'turn fat into muscle'. Losing fat and gaining muscle are two processes that occur separately from one another and generally cannot be done at the same time. However, as a beginner you can rely on 'newbie' gains to do this for you. Basically what it means is that since your body is not accustomed to lifting heavy weights it will build muscle at a much faster rate, meaning you can do it at a caloric deficit (losing fat).

You really don't have that much fat on you, and if I was in your current position I'd just begin bulking (eating at a caloric surplus). To do this you need to find your maintenance calories. Basically, start tracking your calories using an app on your phone (MyFitnessPal is very good) and ensure that you are hitting at or around the same number each day, then, after a week weigh yourself. You need to find the amount of calories where you will pretty much maintain your body weight (which can be difficult to find considering newbie gains). Then, add about a surplus of 500 calories to bulk. It's really impossible for anyone to tell you what these numbers will be, online calculators will give you a rough idea, but many other unforeseen factors can heavily affect this. As such, it's up to you to consistently weigh yourself whilst tracking your calories, and adjust accordingly. You are looking to gain about 250-400g of weight a week which will help to minimise your fat gain. Any less than this and your progress will be extremely slow, anymore than this and you will be gaining much more fat than you would like. However, on a bulk fat gain is inevitable so you need to accept some will occur.

To get abs take an extreme amount of work and dedication. You need to be at a very low bodyfat that is generally unsustainable for long periods of time. People you see in magazines have generally gone on extreme weight cuts prior to the photoshoot to make themselves as lean as possible. I'm not trying to discourage you, but you need to understand that this is a goal that will take you a very long time to achieve. For starters focus mainly on short term goals such as hitting a new bench press PR or gaining X amount of weight. Getting abs is a nice goal but it can really affect your psychology when you aren't seeing much progress towards them.

In terms of looking for a program Bodybuilding.com is a very good resource and has hundreds of different programs you can search through. Starting Strength or a basic PPL routine is very good and simple to start you off.

If you have more questions you can contact me or post on Bodybuilding.com
