#468937 [21/9/23] QoL & Bugfixes Mini Update

Posted by Omicron on 21 September 2023 - 07:58 PM

Alora_Logo.png

Hello everyone,

Today's update will not be a full-fledged content update as per usual, rather it is simply to hold everyone off with some much needed Quality of Life updates & bug fixes to keep things running smoothly. We are also implementing some necessary backend changes to support mobile, so that we can soon open beta testing and allow the first few rounds of beta testers to get into the game on their mobile devices. Here are the updates that have been applied today:

  • Welcome screen update:
    • Our welcome screen has been updated with the OSRS version.
      • This adds some hovers on all elements, and the bank pin / email boxes have been removed in favor of an update banner, which also can be clicked to play.
      • The update notes at the bottom can be clicked to take you to the update list on our website.
      • The "last logged in" message will now show you an exact time (eg. 1 hour, 25 minutes ago) rather than just saying "earlier today".
  • Golden Hammer Changes:
    • The golden hammer in the store has been replaced by the Imcando hammer.
      • Any golden hammers that were purchased from the store previously will now be an Imcando hammer for players when they login.
    • This works the exact same as the golden hammer, except that it can be equipped by players.
      • This provides the added benefit of saving 1 inventory slot when doing activities that require a hammer in the inventory (such as wintertodt and smithing).
  • Tokkul from Fight caves will now be more appropriately calculated:
    • We start with OSRS's initial calculation, which 127 tokkul per wave, and a total of 8032 for all 63 waves.
    • We add our Alora drop rate multiplier to it (1.23) to make it 9879 tokkul, or 157 per wave.
    • We then apply a donator boost:
      • Regular: 5%
      • Super: 7%
      • Extreme: 9%
      • Legendary: 13%
      • Uber: 17%
      • Master: 21%
      • Immortal: 26%
      • Eternal: 30%
    • And finally, we apply the Elite Karamja diary boost (2x) stacked with the boost above.
      • This gives us anywhere from 9880 to 25,686 tokkul depending on Elite Karma diary boost completion and donator rank. Previously, the range was always from 11,250 to 22,500 regardless of donator rank.
  • Quality of Life:
    • Resetting the presets plugin configuration will now clear all presets and sections.
      • These cannot be recovered, so be careful with this option.
    • Players will no longer be able to recharge their Iban’s staff (u) if they’ve already got the maximum 2,500 charges in the staff.
      • He will still replace the regular Iban’s staff with the charged version if possible though.
    • Aubury will now notify players how many charges will be added if they recharge their Iban’s staff, before they’ve paid the fee.
    • You can now respond to the "Do you have any gold in your inventory?" random event question with "0", "none" or the amount of gold you have, as some players were confused and thought it was asking for an amount rather than a yes/no.
    • Sherlock's notes are now stackable.
    • Players can now obtain Sarachnis as a boss slayer task.
    • The toxic blowpipe now fires the correct dart projectile ids for all dart types.
    • Players can now access the companion pet plugin through the plugin hub.
      • This plugin allows players to change their thralls to look like a specific pet, or even summon their own cosmetic pet (that only they can see).
    • Minnow fishing has been opened up to all players.
      • This can be accessed by using the boat on the dock in the fishing guild.
    • Shanomi's "Claim-tokens" option has been changed to "Trade".
    • Claiming daily login rewards will now attempt to deposit them into a player’s bank if their inventory is full.
    • Granite boots will no longer be announced in yell.
    • Players can now use the empty/fill right-click options on the tackle box.
    • Blood reavers will now die after the blood phase is completed at nex.
    • Nex will now only use the drag attack on targets within 6 tiles of herself.
    • Added proper fletching animations for fletching darts, arrows, and bolts.
    • The elite clue scroll drop rate at skotizo is now 1/5 instead of 1/12.
    • A grym root will now be guaranteed to spawn within the first 20 gauntlet rooms.
    • Added the proper graphic after drinking a divine potion.
    • The Ice demon’s magic defence will now be calculated using its defence level, rather than magic level.
      • This will make magic attacks far more accurate.
    • Booster scrolls will now prompt the "Enter amount" option when setting them through the presets plugin.
    • The Skill of the day and wilderness bonuses will now automatically be accounted for in the skill calculator/banked experience calculator, if they are applicable.
    • Yelling can now be done by starting a message with 3 slashes rather than two.
    • All corporeal beast instances are now multi-combat.
    • The frozen cache now announces and logs senator shards.
    • Players can now grind ancient icons for 5,000 ancient essence.
    • Redwood tree seeds and mud battlestaves will no longer be announced over yell.
    • Players can now drag the chatbox around similarly to the minimap/inventory.
      • This will not move the location of Pm’s.
    • Tombs of Amascut QoL:
      • The Grand Chest will now properly show the "loot orb" when opening the chest, and the item that the player receives will be visible to other players in the room.
  • Bug Fixes:
    • Fixed a bug where the regeneration meter plugin's special attack orb highlighting was in the incorrect position in fixed mode.
    • Fixed a bug where players would sometimes be notified they've withdrawn 0 of an item from the tool leprechaun.
    • Godwars dungeon instance killcount draining will now happen when a player attempts to join an instance, rather than when the door is clicked.
    • Fixed a bug with tile markers not working correctly in instances.
    • Fixed a bug where the chatbox messages would be slightly cut off at the bottom.
    • Mithril dragon attack range has been increased.
    • Poison ivy seeds are now tradeable.
    • The game frame will no longer flash or have missing components upon closing the welcome screen, it will be fully built.
    • Fixed a bug where certain bow of Faerdhinen variants were not being recognized by Falo the Bard.
    • Fixed a bug where players could still fail some Phantom Muspah tasks after leaving the area.
    • Players will no longer get the indicator message that their farming contract has started if they've just recently completed one and need to speak to Guildmaster Jane.
    • Fixed a bug where the weed whacker task would auto-complete if the player killed Hespori on the same tick that the flowers spawned.
    • Cave krakens that have been awakened are no longer aggressive.
    • Fixed a bug where rune thrown axes were not providing range experience.
    • Fixed a clipping issue with the snow goggles & mask.
    • Players who die in pest control will now be placed back in the boat, rather than removed from the minigame.
    • Fixed a safespot in the lizardman shaman temple.
    • Fixed a bug where dismantling crystal armor without inventory space would sometimes result in lost crystal armor seeds.
    • Fixed a broken ladder in hosidius.
    • The price of potions and sharks in the realism general store have been doubled for balancing purposes.
    • Fixed a bug where the dark core would sometimes spawn outside of Corporeal beast's lair.
    • Fixed a bug where exiting the bank after searching would sometimes cause key remapping to not function correctly.
    • Fixed a bug where the twisted coat wouldn't clip properly.
    • Fixed a bug where players could attack the hunllef before entering the final fight room.
    • Fixed a bug where the chewed bones counter wouldn’t track sacrifices correctly.
    • Fixed a bug where players could complete an inferno combat achievement in training.
    • Fixed a bug where Zulrah killcount wouldn’t show up on the collection log.
    • The final warden in Tombs of Amascut will now be removed 1 tick earlier on death, preventing it from "flashing" before the Teleport crystal appears.
    • Fixed an issue with floor overlays being purple in some areas.
    • The guide price item search will now properly close whenever a player closes the interface.
    • The prayer filters now work correctly.
    • The escape crystal timers on runelite should now work correctly.
    • Sapphire bolts can now be fired from the rune crossbow.
    • Fixed a bug where players could access the Chambers of Xeric bank chest after starting a raid.
    • Fixed a bug where the next skill of the day would be incorrect right after the skill of the day just changed.
    • Fixed a bug where players wouldn’t enter the hunllef room properly sometimes.
    • Fixed a bug with the quest interfaces not displaying information correctly.
    • Fixed a bug with the quest scroll “X” button not working.
    • Fixed a bug where Phantom Muspah’s shockwave would sometimes travel through spikes.
    • The Bounty hunter interface will now display the targets risked wealth and wilderness level range instead of incorrect location information.
    • Muspah’s homing spike attacks will now end once it enter’s the shielded phase.
    • Redwood trees can now be properly chopped.
    • The beaver pet npc id has been fixed.
    • Sardines now heal 4 hitpoints rather than 3.

#468325 Alora Mobile (iOS & Android Client)

Alora Mobile Development Blog
You read that right! No, it isn't April 1st. Mobile is finally coming to Alora! We've been working on this for quite awhile now behind the scenes, and have held off on sharing the news until we were further along so that we are more confident in what type of experience we are able to provide on mobile devices.

We're so excited to finally be able to share this information with you, I know that it is something that has been requested time and time again, and up until now it was simply a pipe dream. Even if you haven't considered the possibility of playing on your phone or tablet, we're certain you're going to love the ability to do so!

GhL32WH.png

I thought mobile wasn't possible?!
This was indeed the answer whenever someone asked about mobile, simply because we do not use the OSRS client, and their mobile client wouldn't work with our server. What we really meant to say was, the complex task of rewriting a mobile client from scratch was not worth the time and resources being taken away from other updates if it was not going to be available to all of our players (both Android and iOS). Over time, we learned of some potential solutions that could provide a proper mobile experience on both platforms, and we began exploring them in more depth. While it was a tricky endeavor (especially on iOS), we managed to find workarounds for nearly all of the obstacles that we knew existed, and are proud of what we have been able to accomplish so far! We can't wait for you to experience it.

An important caveat: While Alora's mobile app will not be directly available within the App Store or Google Play Store, you'll be able to visit our website and download the web-app directly to your device from there (see image below). You'll also be able to play directly from your browser if you'd like (without a download), but we strongly recommending saving the app to your Home Screen as that will ensure that you can utilize the full width of your display without the browser's URL bar/UI taking up unnecessary space.

Features
Let's get right into the nitty gritty! For starters, most modern devices should be supported! We've developed the client with backwards compatibility in mind, and have tried our best to ensure that most devices from the past ~5 years should be able to play without any problems. With that being said, the most recent devices will provide a better experience because we can use better technology and hardware to take advantage of the enhanced processing power on those devices. If you're keen on playing on your phone and want the smoothest experience, the best thing you can do is ensure you have one of the latest devices.

Both iOS and Android will be supported, including the iPad and other tablets. We'd like to note that we may have to make some UI adjustments on devices that we haven't tested with, so if you have an uncommon device, bear with us while we work out any quirks.

Vertical/Portrait Mode
Completely unique to Alora, we will be including the option to play on your phone vertically so you won't have to hold it sideways with two hands if you don't want to. You can easily rotate your phone to switch between landscape/vertical mode, and the game will re-size and re-position all of the UI elements accordingly. A highly requested feature on OSRS, with many people want to use their phones as a supplementary method of playing the game, perhaps to skill or do some low-risk PvMing while focusing on other things (watching a movie, for example). You don't need as wide of a field of view for these activities, and switching to your app to quickly click on a tree or monster is a lot easier in Vertical mode so you won't have to turn your phone every time you want to respond to a text message. We've always believed in allowing players to play the game their way with a customizable experience, and we're extending that to the mobile client as well :)

Plugins

As it stands, the mobile client will release very similar to the Vanilla client, having a limited selection of built-in plugins such as:

  • Enemy hitpoint indicators
  • Boost timers
  • Boss respawn timers

In the future, we plan to expand upon the available plugins by recreating RuneLite plugins, but our primarily goal at the moment due to the sheer scale of this project is to simply get it out relatively bug-free and with full vanilla functionality.

Limitations
Due to the fact that the client is running within a browser engine, rather than as a native app, we do have a few limitations. We've already managed to get pretty good performance with all of the optimizations we've applied to the client, but we're also in the process of converting the rendering engine to utilize your GPU (via WebGL) rather than CPU to boost performance even further, though this may or may not be available upon release. In the meantime, we've included many different toggle-able settings for you to optimize your client's performance and reduce battery drain / increase FPS:

  • Limit map render distance
  • Limit NPC/Player render distance
  • Enabling low-detail
  • Enabling "many idle animations" to not animate players who are idling in populated areas
  • FPS Limiter (the most effective thing you can do for battery life is to limit FPS)

Release Date
While there is still much to do for this project to be ready for release, we are aiming for a late October release (~Approximately October 28th). With that being said, we're going to open up beta testing even earlier than that (as early as the next couple of weeks!), and for those of you who were around during RuneLite beta testing, you may be familiar with the process: For the first week of beta testing, we will allow Staff members, YouTubers and Eternal donators to access the beta client. Then, every few days, we will expand this list to include the lower tier of donators as well as other ranks (eg. Veteran). Once beta is available, we will publish a timeline of when each rank will be able to access the game.

This allows us to slowly provide access to the client to efficiently test for any bugs, and also to give a sneak peak to the supporters in the community.

$3,000+ Mobile Tournament
Along with the full mobile release, we are planning to host one of our largest tournaments ever! You'll be on a brand new, mobile-locked game mode that will have the mobile limitation removed at the end of the tournament (so that you can continue playing on your account normally). During the tournament, however, you'll have to compete on mobile, for a chance to win over $3,000 in prizes!

Tasks will have a balance of PvM / Skilling objectives, some of them will be "First to achieve" style tasks, and others will simply be whoever has progress the furthest in certain areas by the end of the tournament. We'll announce more details soon once we are more certain of how the tournament will look :)

FAQ

  • Will we get OSRS's proposed mobile UI rework?
    • We are planning on porting it over once it's released!
  • What if I dislike OSRS's new UI?
    • We may be able to add a toggle between the new/old UI, but this is TBD.
  • Will the app drain my battery if it's running in the background?
    • The app will drain significantly less battery when it's in the background, so if you're AFK skilling, you shouldn't have to worry much about battery usage.
  • Will the mobile client have RuneLite support?
    • Full RuneLite support will not be available on mobile, but we plan to implement some popular plugins and rework them to fit on mobile.
  • Will it have HD mode or 2010 mode?
    • HD mode is not currently planned, only GPU support is in the works. As for 2010 mode, it will not be available on release, but could potentially come at a future date if players request it.

This project would not have been possible without the help of a very talented programmer (who is not a part of Alora) that goes by the name of Chivvon, so if you know him or ever run into him, be sure to thank him for his hard work!

#464211 New way to spend loyalty points!

Posted by 2 on 16 July 2023 - 12:04 PM

What is your suggestion?:

Part I:

We all know that the current Loyalty shop is pretty useless other than maybe 5 things, my suggestion would change this.

This would require the addition of some new items, these would be new colored icons. Right now we have the barbarian outpost icons, a red icon, a blue icon and a rainbow icon which are all great but they are currently locked to the Store at a pretty decent amount of money. I got this idea came from the thermonuclear smoke devil color.

Part II:

Add a option to Sir Loyle T to gamble our loyalty points along with cash for one of these new icons, these new icons wouldn't be locked to the Store, the current icons would still be locked behind the Store. (unless there is a change of heart)

Part III:

The new icons would be made so they aren't ugly, stand out customs like a lot of servers have. They would fit seamlessly into our current recolors like crystal armor, skin colors, capes, monkeys, etc. They would also be tradeable, that being said, these items would be extremely rare to get from Sir Loyle T.

Final thoughts:

-Could also include items that OSRS declined but Alora has in-game, like the Bandos (or), Dragon claws (or), Barrows gloves (wrapped), etc, if there is any that aren't CA's.

-These new items could be purchased in the Store as well. :Poggers:

-Maybe include the current blue and red icon in the prize pool but keep the rainbow icon locked to the Store?

-May need to tweak the current rates of loyalty points, depending on the price of gambling.

-Opening up the idea to the possibility of pet icons, like the hydra has?

-Could include recolors of santas, like anti-santa, inverted, etc.

-The tan, blue and brown pairs of "Shorts"  :patrick:

- Kits for corrupted weapons from OSRS DMM (Corrupt TBow, Corrupt Scythe, Corrupt ags, etc.)

Is this in OSRS?: No.

Has this suggestion been accepted already?: No.

How would this benefit Alora?:

-Money sink

-Extra revenue from the Store

-Encourages less bank standing

-Encourages forum posts

-Gives more use to loyalty points

-People love fashionscape/rares

Feel free to share any feedback!  :PepePls:

Credits: To gain for the corrupt weapon kit idea.

#463350 Development Blog #15: Client

Posted by Tauri on 05 July 2023 - 12:45 PM

Hello everyone!

We are bringing back the development blogs! From now on, we are focusing on bringing the newer content to you before it actually gets implented into the game. This way the community will have a brief idea of upcoming newer content and features, in addition to bug fixes and Quality of Life updates.

But without further speech, lets get into the development blog. This time around we have many client-sided improvements, additions and appearance-related things, so that way people can customize their client the way they prefer to play.

As a first update, we are looking forward to updating game settings interface. The current version of the interface is relatively outdated and in order to give the best possible experience to players who like to play with advanced settings, we are bringing a newer, modernized version of the game settings interface.

1BOtSGL.gif

We are also planning to give clans a little bit more features to play with. In the past we released collection log announcements for clan-chats, which have been proven to be relatively popular. Now we are amping it up by giving clan owners a chance to choose the minimum rank necessary for those messages to show, and also give them a possibility to announce completed achievements and bossing personal bests. We hope that it gives the clans a more pleasant experience and activity in building discussions and friendships.  <3

m3aCoBs.gifPw9Vvf7.gif

Items kept on death interface is getting an easier but modern version. That version of interface also will show the items that go to untradeable shop, giving players easier time to understand of what they are risking in the wilderness.

omwd6CZ.gif

This one is for data lovers like me! Have you seen the player "ITEM_CONSUMER" buy your items? Have you ever wondered what items have been bought by the system? If so, then you are in for a treat! We are bringing statistical side of the item consumption device, which is accessible to every player, and shows how many items have been bought by the device. But be careful, if you see the smoke near trading post, then it is not a job for the firefighters!

1SOzE7G.gif/>

Also, if you have been bothered by the way how chatbox is closed and private messages/broadcasts are shown, then this GIF below is for you:

dwg2S2k.gif

Equipment stats have more information now!

1Q4hpwv.gif

No more "pc twisted bow"! The new price guide interface is showing the estimated value of certain items. And if you dont have the item yet, then you can search for it!

hwMBfbz.gif

Presets are getting changed, now you can choose a fancy icon to decorate the way presets look, and much more!

We are looking forward to share more upcoming content in the next development blog! Make sure to keep in mind that those are newer additions to the game, that will come with plenty of bugfixes and QoL updates.

Any feedback regarding development blogs is always appreciated, we are excited to show some of the stuff we have been working on.

Wishing you a great week,

#463133 Trading Clue Scrols on GIM/EIM etc

Posted by Mack on 02 July 2023 - 06:32 AM

No support.

Clues are not tradeable in any capacity on OSRS and shouldn't be on Alora.

Grinding the clue section for collection log slots is one of the few grinds that still has merit. That would be entirely devalued if they were made buyable. Clues are already stackable so there is no need to make them easier to obtain.

Players might do Puro puro for a lot of easy and medium slots, but it is not a viable option for hard, elite or master clues.

Like Hard Dance mentioned, if they are made tradeable on one game mode other game modes will want to be able to as well and it would be a terrible update to game integrity for clues to be tradeable.

Even if it was to only be allowed for groups, someone could purchase hundreds or a thousand clue scrolls on a group ironman and then deiron to a normal account and have a massive advantage toward obtaining collection logs over other accounts.

#463132 Trading Clue Scrols on GIM/EIM etc

Posted by KP on 02 July 2023 - 04:40 AM

As much as i love to do clues, I feel like this would take away a big part of the long term grinds such as gauntlet, raids, nex (main pvm source for clues) in the game modes where mostly everything else is shareable already. so no support.

Appreciate the feedback, as for taking away a big part of the long term grinds, you can simply just not accept the trade like you would with any item. I can get clues from birds nest and things along those lines, I never got a torva platebody from a birds nest. It would be completely optional since it would involve a trade. I understand your concerns tho, thank you for voicing your opinion.

If this would get added, i would like to see this for all gamemodes. I myself spent hundreds hours chasing clue scrolls on my main and it feels like big achievement finally completeing for example 1,000 elite clues. Trading clues kinda seems like a cheat way to make more money/complete the collection log faster and it would kinda devalue the grinds of other people who go for high clue scroll kc's. Not a bad idea but yea, this is my point.

Im gonna stay neutral on this one

Thats a very good point, appreciate your feedback hard dance, missed you lots too!

Lets not forget that a lot of people green log stuff from puro puro aswell, not clues

Full support. My homie @Hard Dance is a legend doing the work we'd all never do. The least we could give him is the correct drop table.
