Motivation in life

21 March 2019 - 04:24 PM

How important is motivation? We can assume that motivation plays an important role in life because without it, it doesn't seem like we'd do, well, anything. Right? Right. So motivation is obviously important. Now comes the question, "How important is motivation?"

In a conjunction of longitudinal studies, (Longitudinal Study: A study design that involves repeated observations of the same variables [people] over long periods of time), it has been shown that the factor that has the highest positive correlation with success, is in fact motivation. (Success in these studies is defined by both social status and Net worth/income.) Motivation shows a SIGNIFICANTLY stronger correlation with success than what most people consider to be the causation of success; Which is primarily intelligence quotient, but also emotion quotient. (IQ and EQ)

This means that you don't have to be the smartest kid in your class to be successful, you just have to be fucking want it, and not give yourself excuses as to why you can't/shouldn't do it.

When I was a kid I didn't have much motivation. In school I was above average in intelligence, but didn't put forth much effort in my classes. I was 6'4" (193.04 cm for you metrics) and 165lbs. (74.84kg) So I was very tall, but very, very, skinny. (As well as self conscious.)

Three months after starting college, I dropped out and joined the Marine Corps. I started hitting the gym. I became obsessed with it. Now I'm 6'4" (same height) but I'm 240lbs (108.862kg). And It's muscle.

Unfortunately I got out of the Marine Corps after only 4 years, due to a brain injury. I had brain surgery, a traumatic brain injury, and some other crazy shit. But I'm in college again. (For real this time!) Pursuing a Doctorate (PhD or PsyD not sure yet) in Neuropsychology, and I was offered an internship with the FBI. If all goes well I want to be a homicide detective, but there's still a lot of time between then and now, so we'll see.

Why am I posting all of this?

I don't know everyone in this community very well, or what you're going through in life, but I do know that for most of us, life isn't easy. I'm not writing this to you guys as someone who IS successful, (yet). But I am writing this to you as someone who IS GOING TO BE successful. If you aren't already, then get fucking motivated. Accomplish your goals, fucking crush them. Set your mind to something, and achieve it. Surpass it, become the best you that you can be. The best thing about being backed into a corner and feeling trapped like you have nowhere to go, is that the only direction you can go is forward.

Make something of yourself. (And of course play some Alora and OSRS on the side)

I'll post some before and after pictures of me below.

stay hungry fuckers.
