Hello everyone,
Hardcore Ultimate Ironman will soon be coming to Alora! As we already have seen the combination of other game modes (eg. HCGIM), naturally it felt right to combine Ultimate + Hardcore Ironman to create the HCUIM. HCUIM is a twist on the Ultimate Ironman mode, adding an increased level of difficulty by stripping you of your Hardcore status if you die in a non-safe area, thereby reverting you to an Ultimate Ironman. This means you can't use the standard mechanisms of death storage boxes that UIM enjoy nowadays, and it will feel much more similar to the original UIM mode prior to the release of additional storage methods on OSRS. The stakes are high, but so are the rewards, as only the most skilled players will stay alive long enough to make it to the top of the highscores while keeping their prestigious Hardcore status.
Launch date: Friday, February 27th, 7pm EST
The mechanics of this game mode primarily take after Ultimate Ironman, except for the Hardcore death mechanics and the Hardcore experience rate (the lower of the two modes).
Mode features:
- Experience rate:
- 8x base rate
- This rate is identical to the Hardcore rate (8x), which is faster than Elite Ironman mode (4x) and Classic mode (5x), and the Group Ironman mode (6x) but not nearly as fast as UIM/Normal Ironman. This keeps the mode "Hardcore", as normal UIM share the same experience rate as regular Ironmen (40x).
- 8x base rate
- Death mechanics:
- The death mechanics are similar to HCGIM, meaning it is even more dangerous than regular HCIM.
- WARNING: Unlike Hardcore Ironman, most deaths are dangerous for HCUIM.
- This includes areas like Chambers of Xeric, Theatre of Blood, Pest Control, The Inferno, Fight Caves, Quest boss fights, which will all now be dangerous deaths.
- The only safe areas are:
- Duel Arena
- Clan Wars
- Last Man Standing
- Castle Wars
- When using an Inferno training ticket (regular Inferno will still count as a death)
- Experience bonuses:
- The same limitations of the Hardcore mode apply to HCUIM. Typical XP bonuses such as the Well of Goodwill will give 50% of the usual bonus (15% rather than 30%).
- Bonds/donations:
- Bonds/Rank tickets are the only item you can transfer from your main to your HCUIM.
- The same donation rules that apply to other ironmen/classics apply to HCUIM (mostly cosmetic purchases only).
- Bloody chest / Supply chest:
- To ensure fairness, these will be disabled for the first month for HCUIM.
- Looting bags:
- HCUIM who destroy their looting bags in the wilderness can have the items remain on the ground for up to 5 minutes before going public. If you are in combat, you cannot destroy your looting bag. Normal players also benefit from this increased timer (2 -> 5 mins) when destroying your looting bag.
Details are subject to change, but this should be a relatively accurate guideline for how the game mode will go.
As with any new game mode, what fun would it be without some friendly competition and some juicy prizes? Below are the details for the planned tasks, some being shared amongst the group and others being individual tasks. These are subject to slight changes as well, but should remain mostly accurate.
