What is your suggestion?: I would like to shed some light on a topic that goes somewhat unnoticed. I know that a lot of people think about it, but it's rarely discussed... My suggestion is that of a plea, a plea to the good staff of Alora to perhaps rethink the current achievement diary reward system. The achievement diary reward system in its current form is a noob trap-- no one who first joins knows enough about the server to make impactful decisions that will affect their account in the long-term. I don't think any new player will be too quick to browse forums for the best item purchase order. And since the progression is so fast at the beginning of the game, it seems almost inevitable for build paths to go awry.

Is this in OSRS?: Yes.

Has this suggestion been accepted already?: No-- but it was originally suggested by Not Salter back on September 30th, 2017(;;topic23551). It received high praise from the community, but the thread was locked and nothing happened. I found it through one of the sticky posts in the Suggestions sub-forum, it was in the miscellaneous section. The reason I wanted to bring it back is because I, too, feel like this would be a worthy allocation of time and resources.

How would this benefit Alora?: I have developed this nagging feeling about the poor choices that I have made when it comes to choosing my achievement diary rewards. As a new player, I had no clue what was what, or that these choices would have such a lasting affect on my character... I know that I speak for a lot of people when I share this mindset: the Achievement Diary rewards don't have to be so eclectic. Add a refund/fail-safe of some type, or rework the Achievement Diary reward system to make it more streamlined. I think something like this will alleviate a lot of discouraging feelings overall.

Thanks for your time,

sincerely,

Mitch

I have gotten complaints before from players who bought an item accidentally and wanted some sort of refund from them. Grinding for points as an ironman is easy early game (after reaching 10 hours playtime) but harder late game. Buying the wrong item and grinding the points again is indeed demoralizing, I feel it would be fair to have some sort of refund option, perhaps refund 50% of the points used to buy the item(s) in question.

could definitely use some better and more intuitive achievements.  Any suggestions on fixes?

I definitely like the idea of a refund system for achievement rewards, and I think Moral Truth's suggestion is great.

50% would be a great refund rate as to make people feel that their purchases would be important, but not a complete waste if they picked an item they don't end up using.

Plus items that are unusable such as the Cooking Gauntlets after 99 cooking are dead items, so having the ability to get a refund of some of the points would be nice.

Support.

New items might be added to the achievement shop and it would be nice if we can refund some points back.

The current system is already very well implemented, I would just tweak some of the current item choices we have-- as well as add an item refund option.

  • Ram Skull helmet, Bomber cap & jacket, Bone sack, Lumberjack & Pyromancer sets are all cosmetics and have no real value(to my current knowledge, please correct me if I am wrong). Achievements should hold more weight, and all of these seem entirely out of place.
  • The Cooking gauntlets, Tome of fire, Bonecrusher, Varrock armor, Karamja gloves, and Ardougne cloak 4 are all great, no need to change anything there.
  • Amulet of nature, and Chaos gauntlets are the only ones I am not too sure about... If you could bind the Amulet of nature to an herb patch and have it auto-display a message in your chat box that your herb run is ready, it would have a lot more value. The Chaos gauntlets are tricky, I'd say just leave them in at the end of the day... There are already so many random items strewn about the shops that I'd have to really take a lot of time to theory-craft replacements and potential item swaps with other shops.
  • At the end of the day, I'd say bring in the all of the other diary pieces; I know they're available by other means, but it seems cheap that they aren't a part of the achievement diary rewards. At least the Explorer's Ring 4-- that cabbage teleport is an incredible time-saver for all new accounts.

These are just some basic thoughts off of the top of my head, I'm sure other people could come up with better options.
