It is already east cost, but we won't be changing it to EU, since most of Alora's players are in the US.

#377471 Feedback October 2020

Posted by Mack on 19 October 2020 - 05:47 PM

I'd like to say it's about time someone has addressed these topics, but sadly that would be far from the truth. Though communication has improved some, it still has an extremely long way to go. Unless it's made a priority, and other staff members are given the trust to aid with these issues, things will continue to slip back into the same poor state. I won't delve into the rest of the matters because this isn't the place and to be frank, it's all been said before, but I'd like clear up what happened with Crack the Clue.

Crack the Clue:

The Crack the Clue event was something that we were looking forward to doing. A unique event that paid homage to Old School Runescape with our own Alora twist. Code 002 and I had been working on the project for a few weeks, figuring out the clues, testing potential clue hints with other Administrators, and communicating with Omicron on what types of things we could and couldn't do to make the event both challenging and engaging. We were nearly finished with the clues when we found out that there was going to be a new game mode announced, Realism. The timing coincidentally collided with the launch of another new OSRS-based RSPS. To make the new game mode more enticing a unique armor set was added, which just so happened to be our reward for Crack the Clue, the Ornate Armor Set. So with half of our rewards being thrown out the window, Code 002 and I decided to scrap the project. An unfortunate end to what was sure to be a fun event, but we hope you understand.

#377430 Feedback October 2020

Posted by Kq head on 19 October 2020 - 01:21 PM

“The main piece of content CoX has been left in this atrocious state for over a month, so we are adding a new donator rank??!”

Eternal Donator Rank

Anyone else notice this new Eternal Donator rank? As far as myself, and many others in the community that I've talked with are aware, this rank was never proposed, polled, or even mentioned to anyone. Everyone I’ve talked with seems to agree that this is a clear cash grab, and honestly, a slap in the face to most of us. Moving on.. What perks could this new donator rank possibly even offer? Any perks that could possibly be offered to match the cost of the rank would be incredibly overpowered and game breaking. The opinion the community holds on donator ranks is already that the highest rank that is worth the cost is uber, so why would anyone in their right mind pay for a potential $20,000 (potentially higher) rank?

For an example, look at the drop rate differences from donator ranks… (While this is a very black and white example, it gets the point across that the rank truly doesn’t provide a benefit worth its price) The Corporeal Beast drops the Elysian Sigil at a 1/2697 rate for non-donors. For uber-donators, that is reduced to 1/2552, and for immortal-donators a 1/2370 chance. Estimating that efficient players can get 30 kills per hour, it would save an immortal-donator 10.9 hours when compared to a non-donator. A $10,000 donator rank is theoretically only saving the player approximately 11 hours, more than $900 per hour saved. Think about what master and immortal donators did to the CoX prices.. How much further can we buff drop rates before it gets to be too much?

What’s more realistic is that players (if any even tried) would try and buy the rank with in game gold, buying custom transfers. Considering the on-going rate for $100 custom donations is 3b gold, at a 1:4 rate it would cost a single player 150b gold to obtain the rank from scratch. The benefits that this new rank would have to provide the player to be worth the price would have to be so incredibly overpowered that it would break the game in no time at all. Not to mention… how many players could even afford to buy that, maybe 2? Even so, they would likely have to dump their entire banks to afford it.

Something myself and a few others in the community have discussed as a better alternative would be paying for rank transfers. We understand that there is a cost of running the server, and the players are willing to do that, but a new donator rank isn’t the best way to go about it. Players being able to pay to transfer their donor ranks from account to account is a service that is much higher in demand than a higher tier donor rank. Not only does this accomplish bringing in more income to keep the server going, it also fills a huge need that the community has been asking for. How many players have left Alora because they wanted to play a new account and didn’t have the option to transfer their rank to a new account? Countless players have offered $100 and more to transfer their ranks, and those same players might come back if this was an option.

Lack of communication

Take a look at Oldschool Runescape’s method for development and why the current version of OSRS is a much bigger success than its prior Runescape 2 (pre-eoc). They run 30 question content polls at least once a month, and develop content around the results. If something doesn’t pass their threshold of being approved by the community (75%), they don’t bother implementing it unless they further reach out to the community, ask what changes would need to be made to see the content implemented, and then make said changes. While on Alora, the last major content (content that exceeds the “weekly update” time frame) poll took place in September of 2017. It has been over 3 years since one of these polls were posted. Here is the post for those looking…

A development focused on what the players would like to see, rather than what content the developers would like to see. This is the style of development that Alora needs to implement. The players keep Alora alive, and players won’t stay when their thoughts and ideas aren’t being listened to. While Omi can, and should, make decisions for the server that he feels are ultimately the best, he should also take into account the ideas that the community has a strong passion for (ex: reworking Olm and ToB, adding nightmare instances and an overall combat system rework). Releasing content like Castle Wars and LMS are not what the players are asking for, yet they get implemented above all else and before fixing what the players are clearly asking for.

Instead of leaving the players, in the dark when it comes to “major” content releases, create development blogs more often. There were 2 back in July and August for the Chambers of Xeric rework, and it was very exciting to see an update like that just around the corner. Knowing what updates are coming and thinking about preparing for those updates always brings back my passion to play because it sets me on a direct path for a cool new piece of content.

Maybe development blogs are something that take up too much of Omi’s time, but there are a ton of dedicated players on the staff team that I am sure would be thrilled to help with the process of testing content and putting together a development blog for the community.

Side note. What happened to crack the clue?
ugKaxyC.png

Stupid update delays

This is one of the things that I will never understand the logic behind... Let's look at the most recent, and probably best example of this. The Chambers of Xeric rework is probably one of the best content updates Alora has seen in a long time; not only is it a good advertisement point, but it is also the cause of many old players returning. While I don’t agree with people saying “cOx iS iMpoSsible” I must admit I don’t see any logic behind delaying crucial bug-fixes, like the scaling of the top floor or the chests randomly disappearing for an entire month.

Another good example of this would be a very long time ago, when the skilling interfaces were updated to match OSRS. This update brought a crafting bug, that made the skill impossible to level early on, pretty much rendering the skill unusable for an entire week. Whether the reason is that a server restart would “annoy” players, or rather it was better to simply delay it a week so that the update would look bigger and better. It makes absolutely no logical sense.

As a player, all of this makes me feel so unappreciated on the server. To know that cash grabs and flashy update threads are clearly more important than the player’s experience, it truly saddens me.

I anticipate all of the discussions this may start, and I look forward to feedback from everyone within the community.

#371667 On the topic of slurs...

Posted by teeth check on 06 September 2020 - 11:33 PM

Please tell me this is a joke lmfao

But then again your clan name says "Cute Bois ReGIMe" so....

Honestly, waking up and seeing this thread I legitimately thought the same.

Isn’t this already part of rule 1a? My 2 cents is to determine what goes to far and what doesn’t, if that is to insta-mute when someone says the r-word then that be it. Make it clear for everyone.
Just my view on it based on this thread, I have no idea on how it’s being enforced atm.

• a. The use of inappropriate, slanderous, and/or disrespectful language towards another’s race, belief system, mental health, ethics, or sexual orientation to personally attack an individual or group will not be tolerated. Although we have an effective ignore system, we expect our members to be courteous towards one another.

Kinda disappointed you're taking this stance of all people as an ex-admin, let me explain. Yes, the word ''retard'', may cause offence to some but, in our day & age, what word does not? (this is not just hating on liberalism etc), The word N---- being disallowed was an absurdity all on it's own as it's not racial in most cases, and it took a few immature people to spam it, just to have their mindset enforced.

Beginning to ban the word retard, we're going down a slippery slope, what words are we going to ban next? Slow, idiot, moron? This is a game on the internet, whilst rule 1 is important, particularly in cases of racism, encroaching on words like retard is a massive give in to snowflake-ism, something that whilst both of us were on the team, I was vehemently opposed to.

Oh lord, won't somebody think of the pkers?

Obvious no support, it's the internet.

#362258 New rule feedback

Posted by God on 06 July 2020 - 06:58 AM

Hey.

Long time no see.

Today, I heard about a new rule being added to the Alora.EYEOH community:

d53beb871c5b07374db8543053cd8056.png

I have a few questions and comments regarding this. (Feedback, Ya know, Since this IS the feedback section.)

Question 1:
What does Alora gain from restricting the OFF-SITE "Private discords" as worded, from having other things in them?
- You're quite literally causing less advertisement for the server as a whole and trying to control what goes on in someones discord just because they also are a part of the Alora community. Forgive me if I'm wrong (lol imagine), but I'm pretty sure @Omicron pays for advertising and with this new rule you're taking away one of the best advertising methods: Word of mouth. (Google it if you're not familiar with the term)

Question 2:
Who caused this rule to be put in place?
- These type of rules are always a "Cause and effect" type scenario. The rule is the effect currently. So, What was the cause? Because from what I can see after logging in even briefly I have RSPS MERK advertising a video:
f85ca6e640e652820f1dd5fe15c8a1ce.png

His thread:
d7ce320c05268e7c9771bbbbf0f58724.png

His discord:
Now, I have been a little inactive I will admit. But, I don't think these are Alora graphics:
62fdd06573d819e9d5433bb95a243408.png

So, By definition of this new rule, I guess I'm making this a public report of him breaking the rule.

But wait, There's more!
While I'm at it, Let's take a look at some other things that break this joke of a rule.

The OFFICIAL Alora newspaper:
717538bde43a8c650b06ed236d4c275d.png

I won't link them here because it'll give you an excuse to hide this post, But almost every single one of these "Video makers" and some of the "Streamers" (top part) advertise/have videos for more than just Alora. So, I hope to see each of them punished accordingly. Aswell as every other discord, youtuber, content creator, or streamer that I can find that is breaking this new rule.

Ending notes:
Before you try to be smart with the wording of the rule: "Players are only allowed to publicly advertise ---CLANS--- on the world yell and forums, If the clan is directly related to Alora only"
If I see some stupid ass comment saying "Hurr durr they are advertising videos not clans" then ANY "Clan" that is being targetted by this can re-brand as a COMMUNITY and continue to advertise because each of these "Youtubers" have their own discords as-well that AREN'T being policed because the discords are just the youtubers "Community".

Side note: The "Private clan" you're targetting with this is actually an "Open cc". Whereas the one you're trying to protect is ACTUALLY classified as a "Private clan". Work on your wording.

Disclaimer:
Remember, this is a FEEDBACK section and I am giving FEEDBACK. Also, No rules were broken in the making of this post, So I hope it doesn't end up hidden. I have it saved in a notepad just incase though.

As usual, I welcome any and all comments or questions with open arms.

- Josh.

While browsing the forums earlier as most Salty Ex-Admins do.. I noticed a thread from our head server support here:

https://www.alora.io...-flies-by-fast/

In this post he is very humble thanking the community and staff team for allowing him to help everybody, come back, and continue to be the team.

But, This post isn't that post.

This post, We want to thank YOU @MT.

I've said it time and time again, You are easily one of the most respected staff members I have seen across my time of being staff. I know Admins who gained less respect than you. (But that's a different post for a different day.)

You took your demotion like a champ. Understood why it happened and didn't whine or cry about the decisions we made. Instead, you later accepted our offer for you to come back as a permanent server support which hardly anyone (myself included) would've done and just fucking killed it. Nobody ever has a chance of claiming the title of "Best server support" again after you. You will always be #1 SS and a High-Tier staff member in not only my but many others books.

Congrats on passing a years time back on the team. Not many people can deal with staff chats that long :Kappa:

Once again, Thank you Moral Truth for everything you do to help the staff team and community of this game.

@Omicron Can you specify what exactly was wrong with mage before? I’ve never heard complaints and actually heard the exact opposite, there is the occasional time where black dhide splashes 6 times in a row but mage has been mostly overpowered for a long time. You could notice this especially when bridding (no overheads) because it hits hard as heck through tank. I as with the majority of pkers I’ve talked to don’t see a need for this mage buff to be honest.

Edit: add dragon bolts from vorkath to pkp shop

#332370 So um....

Posted by Code 002 on 18 January 2020 - 07:59 AM

Well here we go again, this is me resigning from the staff team and the game itself.

As most of you may know I have recently received a promotion at my real life job. This entails me being an "OEM Liason", Mass production packaging specialist. There's a lot more to it but in a nutshell I handle customers that consistently order the same parts in mass quantities. Talking like 160k parts per year and they can have up to 60 different parts, and that's just ONE of these customers. So you can say I have a lot to get into and learn about how their processes flow. So that I may provide them exceptional service with outstanding results.

To some this is an obvious turn of events. Seeing as how I really don't play the game anymore like at all. When I am gaming in my free time I'm not finding myself as interested in playing Alora anymore. It makes me both sad yet happy simultaneously. It's a weird feeling and I don't know a better way to describe it other than being "bitter sweet". Lately I've found solace in playing other games such as Destiny2, Darksouls (again), OSRS, COD, and many more that would take way to long to list out.

I can not lie my adventure here with the staff team has been quite enjoyable throughout my entire stint here. I've met THOUSANDS of people and interacted with each of them on an individual level. Some good some not so good (monkas). I had originally planned to leave a few months ago, but circumstances changed and I felt I was still needed for some people (newer admins). At the time I couldn't just stomach the fact that something me and a few others have worked so hard to build a foundation of judgement and assertiveness. Throwing 5-6 new guys into this pit of endless discord pings and MR YELLOW MODERATORMEN! "how do i catch karams?" (reeee). But as it stands I am totally confident in our young "Yellowmen" and their trusted partners the "Greenmen" to be able to handle the fort and maybe even conquer new territory. To these gentlemen I wish you the best of luck and remember....... There are 2 sides to every coin, you just have to pick it up and look at it. To the lower staff that I may not have been as close to as other members. My recent image for both you and new players has not been up to par and that is something I'll apologize for.

I Could list 12974653 people to tag to say thanks for everything they've done for me and helped me in every step of my journey. But holy shit I fkin CBA there's too many to go through. You know who you are and what you mean to me I don't need to tell you that. (And it's not like over half of you would just say "STFU Alex you're too tall") or something along those lines :P. I would love to say I might see you all in game but sadly this is not the case. I doubt I will be playing Alora anytime soon for a hot minute. I've just lost the drive.....

To keep this from dragging out any further I can wrap it up like this...

Spoiler

Sincerely,

Alex (Code 002, Groot)
