Hello everyone,
 
I have some bittersweet news to share with you all today. As of a few weeks ago, @Lowkey has no longer been the community manager of Alora. I regret to inform everyone that he will no longer be managing the community due to a lack of time IRL, and we fully support him in his effort to prioritize his family time and professional career. This will undoubtedly be a big loss for Alora, as Jay has been a part of this thing from the very first day (even before we opened our doors) and is a big part of why Alora is where it is today, and we still have plenty of love and respect for him for the time he has spent with us. Needless to say, we'll always have a spot for him on the team should he ever want to return. With that being said, we wish him all the best on his future endeavours, and hope to still see him around every now and then.
 
On the other side of the coin, we're glad to be able to announce that a very well-seasoned staff member, one that you've all come to know and love, will be stepping in to fill Jay's shoes. They're big shoes to fill, and although we can never truly replace him, we are confident that @Moe will do a great job of managing the community and the staff team, as he has already proven himself as Event manager and is another huge part of Alora's success.

1.5 to 2 months of my daily nightmare grind, i have finally completed my set

Chapter 1: Meet some of the team!

 

After multiple hours of IQ tests, 100s of rounds of skirbblo, and multiple ICE PKing trips venturing into an empty wilderness, two of our members have stood out in the eyes of our community. Two completely different individuals having the opportunity to showcase what really goes on upstairs.

Chapter 2: Grinds/Spoons and much more!

 

Another year, another empty bowl of cereal. If one thing ICE is known for it's that we have the tendency to grind. But that's not always the case.

As much as you and I hate them, It's always awesome to see some spoons!

Chapter 3: ICE Enters the wilderness

 

Just a bunch of Irons PKing like back in the golden days. 

 

In the shadows of the night, the demons come out to play. What's a clan post without a PK showcase!

 

 

However, not every PK goes our way. Ladies and Gentlemen a leak like no other. Never seen before footage of the one and only Ivy testing his skills in a heated 1v1 battle vs a fierce warrior! (Who's only 13)

 

 

Chapter 4: ICE Events

 

Events have been flowing through ICE, with the likes of the Aftermath x ICE bingo and our recent event Santa's little helper. 

From weekly events to discord nights. ICE has got you covered.

 

In the month of March, ICE is happy to announce we will be hosting a King of the Hardcore event!

 

Overview of the event: 

When: March 2022

Event Duration: 2 Weeks

Prize Pool: 2b + 

 

Rundown: Players will begin on a fresh level 3 account and grind out the best items they can within the 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks, competitors will battle it out in the wilderness in a 1v1 tournament style competition, where the top 3 competitors will win from the prize pool. However there can only be one winner.

 

There will be multiple challenges throughout the event, such as... First player to any 99 stat wins 150m +  

 

Keep an eye out on forums in the month of February for a full rundown of the event + sign-up thread! 

This is one you will not want to miss!

 

Chapter 5: Farewell 2021

 

In conclusion, 2021 was a year to remember. The friendships that were made, the soldiers that we lost to other Alorian militants. 

As the famous youtuber Steel Nogan would say CBA and we cannot wait to see what 2022 brings!

Heyo alora gods,

 

Been playing Alora since 2017 and have dwindled on and off over the years, mostly was known as "U" / stupidly lucky rng when it came to pets but not drops (pain). But used to have a LOT of alt accounts ranging from hcim, uim, eim etc. etc. but stopped playing after getting bored a few months ago. Now i'm back but on a filthy normie account due to just wanting to have fun / pet hunt instead of playing a VERY unhealthy amount of hours a day beforehand, can't wait to speak with you all again :^)

Couldn’t agree more. People are going insane over an early access item.
At the end of the day, it’s just a cosmetic. Should it take some skill/dedication to get it? Yes, but give omi some time until he’s come up with a decent yet challenging way to achieve it.
Y’all have had access to marble blocks, magic stones, elite void and many more items in the store for YEARS. Supplies and equipment that actually matter during one’s alora grind.
Regarding the “bragging rights” that the helmet comes with, I’d be way more impressed if someone showed me a stack of 250 marble blocks (1000 donator tokens).

Omi has already confirmed that it will be added to the game as a reward, so instead of actively complaining here or in discord channels, give him suggestions and/or ideas as to how the slayer helm variants should be obtained through gameplay.

I honestly cannot tell if the first paragraph is satire, kudos. If it wasn't, comparing void and construction supplies to one of the most prestigious items on OSRS (Tzkal) is surely a balanced take.

 

There were plenty of potential ways that the helm could have been implemented:

a - Alora's own set of combat achievements - I was expecting this to be a long shot considering Alora and OSRS have different combat, so it'd have to be reworked completely. There's plenty of endgame PVMers on the staff team, so Omicron could have relied on them to brainstorm ideas for the list of achievements. Heck, it could have been as easy as minimum boss kc's and minimum time kills. But it would have given older players something more to grind for, to keep them engaged on Alora.

b - Making it an additional drop from Fight Caves/Inferno like Chase legend suggested earlier

c - Adding it to the slayer store, costing an assload of points

d - Any other idea than what we got

 

And instead we got yet another item added to the cash shop, voice our concern on the thread, and Omicron says "N-no wait, it's coming in-game soon! We just wanted to give early-access to people!" It leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The entire point is the prestige of the item, that's ruined as soon as you can pay for it. And yes, I understand the Alora is a business, but in this update alone we have several store-specific updates even without it:

-Custom donation sale

-Rainbow ankou

-Christmas boxes

-Token sale

 

We might as well go ahead and add all the other slayer helm recolors to the cash shop as well, right? And don't forget the Ancestral/Scythe/Sang ornament kits! They're just cosmetics, after all. People can pay for them or they can grind them out in-game, just like these new helms.

It's completely understandable that players want a method to obtain the ornament kits for the Slayer helmets in-game, and we will be adding a way to do that in the future as well. It likely won't be through Combat achievements though, due to the differences between Alora and OSRS. We have a few ideas for how to introduce them into the game, and we'll share that likely in the next full update.

It's more-so an early release for those who support Alora, especially as the game matures and players aren't donating for items as much anymore, so we have to find ways to rejuvenate the store in order to maintain the same level of updates, marketing and quality of the game. With that being said, we have opted for adding cosmetic items which don't tend to negatively affect players, rather than releasing end-game items into the store. For those who want to earn the items in-game, if you want them right away, they are tradable and can be purchased from another player or via buying bonds, or there will be a method to obtain them in-game without the store in the near future if you're willing to wait a bit for it.

As for the discounts on items, since we're doing a total spent bonus this time around (for the first time) and store items already become cheaper because of the 25% bonus, we decided to not put individual discounts on items. That doesn't mean that discounts are not going to be there for future sales, we've just decided to provide a different bonus (total spent) this time around.

Hope that clears things up for you guys and gives you a better perspective on our though process behind the updates.

Pretty sure there is plenty of items to add to the store so people get more interested. Now you just took away the feel of accomplishment for getting such an item.

And just wanna say that master monkey. Has there even been put in a slight bit of thought. Right now it looks like a 3 y/o had a go with some crayons.

All this time we've been waiting on those slayer helms coming with combat achievements. And ma man decides to add them to the store as a quick money grab. Really dissapointed. Rainbow ankou looks kinda sick too but thought we were trying to stay classy and not go the custom item route (same with the monkeys wth man).

Random thread. Some shower thoughts, wanted to post in one of the places that shaped the journey. This thread probably not relevant to you if you don't know me, so feel free to close out of it. 

 

Been on a crazy ride my whole life, been privilaged enough to live in multiple countries; growing up and experiencing, encorportating, learning about new cultures - while also being exposed to a whole new medium that we take for granted, the Internet. All these things come together and shape the person who you are. 

 

Alora, got quite a couple of years under its belt. Congrats @Omicron. Knew we were building something special when we first set out. We've both changed, and grown over the years. I still remember the days we were sitting on Skype transforming the little server known as Impact to what this became. Looking back, it's quite an achievement. We went from playing a small scale server with 10 active players, to a server that's still around for multiple years and has a playercount that has consistently been over the multiple houndres.

 

The days sitting on Skype, together with a couple of other members [uTorrent, Ikta, Drake] - those were wild times. I remember us testing hours on end to get what would then be Alora. Stripping the game down to its bare bones, and transitioning to the OSRS meta that we see dominates the scene today. We went from getting an update every 3 months to weekly ones at launch and even to this day I see you jam packing updates on a consistent basis. I still remember the day I came up with the name Alora, recalling that it was some city in Spain and suddenly wondering if that would cause conflict with the SEO indexing - looks like it's the first result now and has been for a while. 

 

Great times. Then once we launched, I still remember stressing out about how I was going to put the team together and make all this function. I was ectatic, yet stressed. I still remember finally deciding to go out properly after the first two weeks of launch, and while I was out intoxicated out of my mind - I get the ping "The server crashed"; back when crashes were still a thing and someone had to reboot the server to ensure everything continued running. What a trip.

Managing all of that, thought me a bunch of lessons along the way - and for those I am forever greatful. Want to shout out all the team members who were part of the journey - no matter how short it was. Very thankful for all the work everyone did, especially people like Ikta, Haris, uTorrent, and countless of others who helped shape the team along the way. We all make mistakes, and I had my fair share of those too. The decisions made while I was in that burnout phase while dealing with another personal aspect of my life lead me down a self-destructing path in terms of my Alora career. That said, we all make mistakes - we're only human after all and sometimes its easy to get blinded by some things; some easier than others. That said, I learned life lessons that I'll never forget and those were critical for making me who I am today. Experienced heartbreak, and lost the clostest friends I had at the same time - and yet the best of friends are always able to forgive, and that's what you guys did.   Thanks for sticking by me over all these years, and allowing me to vent to you, learn from you, and just chill along the way.

 

Anyways with that out of the way, I want to take a moment to shout out the PWJ friendgroup. Majority of ex-players that came together and chilled over the 2.5 years. Very thankful for every member in there, you guys are forever part of the people I will respect! Endless of moments of discussions in there, always trying to help each other out - while continuing to degen around. Our internal leaderboard for the curious. 

 

 

Anyways, could type some more but seems like this thread is already becoming more than what I initially anticipated. 

 

Wanted to take a bit of time to thank all the people that were part of the journey, and somehow this felt like the perfect time to post something like this. The community, Alora itself, and the work I put in has given me a bunch of life lessons that I continue to leverage in my life. I would not have been so successful without any of this happening. Wishing everyone the best, find what drives you and act on it.
