#25894 Officially 1 Month of Alora!

Posted by Omicron on 04 December 2016 - 08:24 PM

Hello everyone,

As of today, we've officially been online for 1 month! We've also coincidentally broken our max player count today by reaching over 500 players online, which is incredible for only a month of uptime.

We've experienced major growth in the past month, and it goes without saying that we could not have done it without the constant support from all of you. We've had our ups and downs, but overall the past month has been a great experience that I hope all of you have enjoyed. I personally want to let you know that I am grateful for not only the patience that all of you have had while we dealt with issues, but also for helping to better our server and community on a daily basis, whether it be through bug reports and suggestions have been frequently posted, or simply welcoming new players and answering basic questions for them.

On behalf of the staff team, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for being a part of Alora and helping to shape our community into what it is today, and I am excited for what the future holds :)

no achievement fix  :FeelsBadMan:

Hey, I actually looked over this one but it will also likely be this week! We may have to bump off another update for it.

#22998 Development blog #1

Hello,

Welcome to the first(of many) development blog for Alora! Many of you have requested to have more information on upcoming updates, and I think it's a great way for all of you to get more involved with future updates, as well as having your say on what you like, and what you don't like.

At the moment, Alora is still in its early stages, so we've got plenty of bug fixes on our list that won't be shown here. We'll typically only include actual content updates here, and although there is currently no interval set for the frequency of the development blogs, I'll make sure to keep you guys updated as well as I can :)

During the next week or so, we'll be starting work on and/or finishing:

  • Clan chat
  • Quick prayers
  • Looting bag
  • Rune pouch
  • Hiscores expansion
    • User viewing and searching

Not much media to show at the moment, but the Rune pouch interface has had considerable progress:

Of course, we'll try to squeeze in some other content that is not as high priority in between, such as having an NPC convert your Zamorak spear into a Hasta for a price, as well as the many bug fixes that are to come.

We're hoping to get most, if not all of these updates completed within the coming week. While we're not exactly sure what next week will look like, the Abyssal sire is high priority on the list, so expect that as well ;)

Thanks for reading!

Regards,

Omicron

Could have an easy random event(eg select the item that doesn't fit in) which has the chance at a cosmetic reward or something as well. Thanks for the suggestion :)

#18220 Drop rates...

Caskets were just made more common. They're even more common if the enemy is your assigned slayer task :) if this is still too low(following the latest update), we can look into other ways of enhancing GP gain from PVM.

I'm getting mixed opinions -- one minute it's too high, the next minute it's too low :khaledthink:

#11358 Donation Store;

I agree, rather see less people with these in-game. If there are any other items that are controversial either PM me or start a new thread.

#9777 The Donating Situation

Posted by Omicron on 18 October 2016 - 08:26 PM

I spoke with Silvernova on this topic not long ago, but I'll write my opinion here so that it is clear for everyone to see.

Keep in mind that any items added in the shop will also be obtainable in-game. There are no plans to have any 'exclusive items' in the shop that won't also be obtainable in-game.

Here's how I see it: you can either work in real life to earn your money and then spend it in the donation store to obtain items, or work within the game to obtain them. Some people simply don't have 10 hours a day to grind out Slayer to get their Abyssal whip, as they work 10 hour days, but when they get home they still want to enjoy playing Alora just like others who don't have the same IRL commitments.

While I definitely see your point, I don't think the effect of donation items will be as visible as you are imagining, and ultimately it's just not a possibility for a quality RSPS to not have donation items. There aren't currently any other servers without items in their donation store(that I know of, or that have more than 5 players), and there's good reason for that -- it's incredibly unrealistic for a developer to put hundreds of hours into development without the incentive of income, and I guarantee you wouldn't be getting the same consistency or quality with updates if that were the case, as development takes a lot of time, which would otherwise be invested elsewhere.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy putting those countless hours into developing Alora, I definitely did, but if it were entirely non-profit it would only be a much smaller fraction of that time as my priorities would be different. I've also invested quite a bit of money from my own pocket to get Alora to this stage. Hell, even employees of non-profit organizations in real life often still need to be paid for their time. As others have mentioned, the donation shop is not complete and prices are not finalized just yet either.

As I said, I understand what you're saying but you need to look at the big picture. I also feel that you're overestimating the effects of the store. I hope you understand the point I'm trying to get across.

Thanks for the suggestion. Working on it now.

Edit: This should be fixed. Let me know if the problem persists.

#8848 Donations

Creative idea but I don't support it, it would really make the game easier for donators.

You would probably say so would items, as they would also make the game easier for them, but the thing with items is that they can be won from a non-donator from a donator, which balances eco, but the 'perks' would just be there forever, making it easier.

I'd also have to agree with this.

Perks remain forever, while items can be lost and are also obtainable by non-donators so it isn't entirely unfair. With that being said, I like the concept of the perk system and could implement this through loyalty points so that everybody has a shot at obtaining them.
